摘要: A method of electrically stimulating a target muscle of a patient includes placing at least one stimulation electrode in electrical contact with the target muscle and applying an electrical signal to the stimulation electrode. The method further includes obtaining a signal from a sensing element placed on the patient, wherein the sensing element is configured to detect at least one biological parameter of the patient associated with contraction of the target muscle caused by the application of the electrical signal, and adapting stimulation of the target muscle by the at least one stimulation electrode using the obtained signal.

摘要: A probe device is disclosed that includes one or more insulating layers and a glassy carbon layer. The glassy carbon layer includes one or more channels. Each channel includes a microstructure, which may include an electrode region, interconnect region, and bump pad region. The electrode region may be placed in contact with a human or animal patient or test subject and used to collect or deliver signals in applications such as electrocorticography (ECoG), electromyography (EMG), and neural stimulation. A method of making a probe includes depositing a glassy carbon precursor on a substrate, patterning the precursor using photolithography, pyrolyzing the precursor to allow the formation of glassy carbon, and depositing one or more insulating layers.

摘要: A paralysis monitoring system can be utilized during various medical procedures. Generally, the system is used during procedures involving anesthesia, when general paralysis is necessary, e.g., during surgery that requires cutting through or mobilizing muscle tissue. The paralysis monitoring system stimulates a nerve with low voltage signals and can provide for continuous monitoring and recording of the evoked muscle activity throughout and after a procedure. By monitoring a quantitative response of the muscle activity to nerve stimulation, an anesthesiologist may adjust subsequent doses of a paralytic agent to achieve a desired level of paralysis.

摘要: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for mapping the location of a nerve. The apparatus includes at least one stimulation module, a stimulation detection module, a distance module, and a mapping module. The stimulation module stimulates a nerve with an electrical stimulation current from at least one stimulation electrode. A stimulation detection module detects a muscle reaction resulting from stimulation of the nerve by the at least one stimulation electrode. The distance module uses information from the at least one stimulation electrode and from the stimulation detection module to calculate a distance between the at least one stimulation electrode and the nerve. The mapping module maps a location on the nerve using at least two distances calculated by the distance module and position information of the at least one stimulation electrode for each of the at least two distances calculated.
