摘要: The present disclosure provides medical instruments and medical instrument components having targeted torsional failure. Such targeted torsional failure helps prevent a surgeon from applying excessive torque that may damage an implant or bone, and also helps avoid the problems and complications that arise when medical instruments break within patients during surgical procedures. To provide such targeted torsional failure, the disclosed medical instrument components include a breakaway section designed so that the component breaks at a desired amount of torque, at a desired location, and in a desired way. The provided medical instrument components may also include a sleeve to increase side-loading strength that may otherwise be reduced due to the breakaway section. The increased side-loading strength may help prevent accidental bending-type failures. The presently disclosed medical instrument component therefore provides targeted torsional failure without sacrificing side-loading strength.

摘要: The invention relates to a liquid sampling device a support structure having a liquid reception interface that is in fluid communication with a reservoir chamber and a microfluidic valve, the microfluidic valve being connected to a measuring chamber. The liquid reception interface, the reservoir chamber and the microfluidic valve are configured to allow liquid entering the liquid reception interface to flow into the reservoir chamber while being prevented from passing the microfluidic valve unless a predetermined static pressure difference over the microfluidic valve is exceeded. The microfluidic valve is a passive valve without moving parts. Passing of liquid through the microfluidic valve is controlled by a static pressure difference over the microfluidic valve. The reservoir chamber is configured and arranged to cause high enough a static pressure at an entrance side of the microfluidic valve that causes a flow of liquid through the microfluidic valve into the measuring chamber once the reservoir chamber is completely filled.

摘要: A method may include coupling a first delivery device to a catheter assembly, which may include a catheter dwelling within vasculature of a patient. The first delivery device may include a first tubular instrument. In response to the first tubular instrument being in a distal position, a distal surface of the first tubular instrument may be disposed at a first distance beyond the distal tip of the catheter. The method may include coupling a second delivery device to the catheter assembly after uncoupling the first delivery device from the catheter assembly. The second delivery device may include a second tubular instrument. In response to the second tubular instrument being in the distal position, a distal surface of the second tubular instrument may be disposed at a second distance beyond the distal tip of the catheter. The second distance may be greater than the first distance.

摘要: The lancet device includes a housing and a lancet having a puncturing element. The lancet is disposed within the housing and is adapted for axial movement between an initial or pre-actuated position wherein the puncturing element is retained within the housing, and a puncturing position wherein the puncturing element extends through a forward opening in the housing. The lancet device includes a drive spring disposed within the housing for biasing the lancet toward the puncturing position, and a retraction or return spring for returning the lancet to a position within the housing where the puncturing element is disposed within the housing. The retraction spring thereafter maintains engagement with the lancet to assist in preventing the puncturing element from again projecting outward from the forward opening in the housing.

摘要: An arterial access system includes a catheter assembly having an arterial catheter and an access port. A blood draw device is coupled to the access port, with the blood draw device including a catheter tube, a housing that movably receives the catheter tube and has a distal end portion coupleable to the catheter assembly, and an advancement member configured to move relative to the housing to move the catheter tube between first and second positions to enable a distal end of the catheter tube to be disposed past a distal of the arterial catheter. A collection device is positioned proximal to the housing and in fluid communication with the catheter tube such that, with the catheter tube in the second position, the collection device directly collects a sample of arterial blood through the catheter tube.
