    Abstract: A breathing system includes a pressurized fluid supply, a downstream breathing device, and a fluid regulator comprising. The fluid regulator includes an inlet in fluid connection with the fluid supply, and an outlet in fluid connection with a downstream breathing device. The fluid supply supplies fluid at a first pressure to the inlet, and the fluid is at a second pressure at the outlet that is lower than the first pressure. The fluid regulator also includes a boost tube disposed within an outlet portion of the fluid regulator. The boost tube includes a body defining a length and a plurality of apertures extending through the length of the body and configured to reduce the turbulence of the fluid flowing from the outlet to the downstream breathing device.

    Abstract: A combination face mask and air filter includes a face mask; an air filter including a centrifugal fan, a circuit board, a filter element, a power supply, a housing for enclosing the centrifugal fan, the circuit board, the filter element, and the power supply, a cover releasably secured to the housing, and a UV lamp; a tube having a first end attached to the face mask; and a strap having two ends attached to the housing. The centrifugal fan includes an inlet and an outlet. The UV lamp is disposed at the outlet of the centrifugal fan. A second end of the tube passes through the housing to communicate with the outlet of the centrifugal fan.

    Abstract: There is provided a method of controlling a powered air purifying respirator blower system to deliver a substantially uniform volumetric airflow to a user, the system comprising a fan powered by a battery in communication with a variable speed electric motor, the variable speed electric motor is controlled by an electronic control unit for delivering a forced flow of air through at least one filter to a user, comprising the steps of: (a) determining an estimated system run time by summing a battery run time remaining and a system run time; and (b) altering a speed of the variable speed electric motor when the estimated system run time is equal to or less than a desired system run time.
