    摘要: An improved therapy for both clearing the blood of unwanted carbon monoxide and anaesthetic chemicals and for rapidly re-oxygenating blood suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning or smoke inhalation. It also includes a therapy delivery device for carbon dioxide and oxygen metering and mixing apparatus for gases under pressure particularly for respirators and medical devices which has a plurality of compressed gas supply lines which are connected to a mixing device for delivery into a demand regulator (respirator or face mask). It includes a gas selection device, an automatic shut off of the carbon dioxide, a purging system, metering of the gases and a mixing chamber to promote a homogeneous mixture of gases and sized for field use by emergency care operators. The therapy is a mixture of carbon dioxide and oxygen for promoting the rapid oxygenation of the patient's blood supply for cases of carbon monoxide poisoning, smoke inhalation or other cases where the blood oxygen level is low.

    摘要: An apparatus meant for human use to supplement breathing while at high altitude in aircraft for emergency use. The apparatus includes a valve as an actuator to discharge oxygen into an attached facemask. A small cylinder containing oxygen under pressure is inserted and attached to the valve. Once assembled, the invention is stored in aircraft to be available for instant use. If a cabin depressurization emergency should occur, an occupant may access oxygen immediately by pressing a valve lever to start the flow of oxygen. By adjusting a knob located on the valve lever the user may control the flow of oxygen and extend oxygen use to allow time for evasive action.

    摘要: In a method for controlling an expiratory valve in a ventilator during expiration, the expiratory valve is opened substantially fully for a first interval. Fully opening the expiratory valve has the advantage of minimizing the expiratory resistance a patient needs to overcome. Keeping the expiratory valve open as long as possible during expiration, without losing control of positive end expiratory pressure (PEEP), is therefore advantageous. An optimal system is achieved. In a method wherein pressure in the expiratory section of the ventilator is measured during a second interval, the expiratory valve is regulated so a predetermined end pressure is obtained in the expiratory section, and at least one parameter, directly or indirectly related to control of the expiratory valve, is determined, and a determination is made from that parameter as to whether the next first interval for the next expiration should be longer than, shorter than or as long as the first interval.

    摘要: A flow diverter valve is used in controlling the pressure and/or flow rate of a breathable gas supplied to the airways of a patient by a breathable gas flow generator supply apparatus during, for example, ventilatory assistance treatments such as non-invasive positive pressure ventilation and nasal Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea. The flow diverter valve includes a vane and a housing. The housing has an inlet port, an outlet port, and an exhaust port. The exhaust port opens to atmosphere, and the inlet port is in fluid communication with the flow generator. The outlet port is in fluid communication with a patient mask via a conduit. The vane is configured with respect to the housing such that a blower associated with the CPAP apparatus remains substantially unchoked, regardless of whether the vane is in the open or closed position.

    摘要: A surface breathing vent device for a mask permits the user wearing the mask to breathe ambient air prior to diving under water or entering an oxygen-poor environment and includes a support plate couplable to the mask and provided with an opening in alignment with the com port of the face mask, a bushing provided in the opening, and a vent barrel received in the bushing and movable between an open position in which ambient air can pass into the mask and a closed position where water is prevented from entering the mask. The barrel includes a closed end and two lateral openings which permit air to pass therethrough when the barrel is in the open position. A first O-ring prevents the inadvertent removal of the barrel from the bushing, a second O-ring functions as a detent when the barrel is opened and closed, and a third O-ring provides a water and air tight seal when the barrel is in a closed position. A microphone can be attached to the vent device such that the vent device serves the dual purpose of a com port and breathing vent. In addition, because of the location of the com port over which the vent device is coupled, the air flow through the vent device travels directly into the nose and out of the mouth and does not pass the visor of the face mask outside the oral-nasal cup. As a result, there exists relatively little dead space for the build-up of CQ2 and little chance of fogging the visor. As radial openings form the air passage, a relatively large vent area is provided.

    摘要: A pneumatic oxygen conserver for providing oxygen to a patient. The conserver includes a body having a cavity and a main diaphragm dividing the cavity into first and second chambers. A first inlet passage delivers oxygen from an oxygen supply to the first chamber, and a second inlet passage delivers oxygen from the supply to the second chamber. An outlet passage delivers oxygen from the first chamber to the patient. The main diaphragm is movable between a closed position to prevent oxygen flow through the outlet passage and an open position to permit such flow. Vent passaging vents the second chamber. A pressure sensitive valve is connectable to the patient for permitting flow through the vent passaging when the patient inhales and preventing flow through the vent passaging when the patient exhales. Valving along the second inlet passage moves between an open position to permit flow through the second inlet passage to pressurize the second chamber and enable the conserver to operate in an oxygen conserving mode and a closed position to prevent flow through the second inlet passage, vent the second chamber, and enable the conserver to operate in a continuous flow mode. In the oxygen conserving mode, oxygen is delivered to the patient when the patient inhales, and oxygen flow is prevented through the outlet passage when the patient exhales. When the valving is in the continuous flow mode, oxygen is continuously delivered through the outlet passage.

The valve housing has a control-fluid channel, a second-fluid channel, and a piston which is movable between open positions and a closed limit position. The valve has a piston head seat located intermediate the control-fluid channel. The seat has a shape which compliments the piston head so that the control fluid can flow through the control-fluid channel when the piston is in an open position. The valve has a piston stem seat located intermediate the second-fluid channel. The piston stem seat has a shape which compliments the free end of the piston stem so that a fluid seal is formed in the second-fluid channel when the piston is in the closed limit position and so that a second fluid may flow through the second-fluid channel when the piston is in an open position. The valve is constructed and arranged so that a low-pressure/low-flow-rate control fluid connected to the input port of the control-fluid channel will actuate the piston from the closed limit position to an open position. The valve is also constructed and arranged so that the second-fluid channel is automatically opened when the piston is moved to an open position, and the second-fluid channel is automatically closed when the piston is moved to the closed limit position.
