A ski hold-down clamp is comprised of a clamp head assembly, a clamping device, a cable and the actuation pedal. A pair of counterpoised clamp plates retains the orientation of an engaged ski by actively engaging the ski side walls. The clamp head assembly is comprised of clamp plates, a clamp ski support, a plurality of spring assemblies, a cable, and a vertical support bolt. The clamp head assembly is connected to the clamping device by the vertical support bolt. The ski clamp support is transversely bisected by a pair of through-bolts are a fulcrum for the movement of the clamp plates. The cable passes through the clamp plates and is retained by cable retainer. When the foot pedal is actuated, the cable is retracted. This movement causes a force to be applied to clamp plate, creating a compression of the clamp plate against a spring assembly.

The invention relates to a treatment apparatus of the sliding surface of sports gear comprising at least one treatment web (1), which is arranged to pass from a web roll (2) into a removal space (5) via a first guide surface (3) and a second guide surface (4), and a heating element (6) disposed between the first and second guide surface at a distance from the treatment web. According to the invention, the treatment apparatus includes at least one means (7, 8, 17) for contacting the treatment web (1) with the heating element (6) by moving the guide surfaces (3, 4) with respect to the heating element (6) and/or by moving the heating element (6) with respect to the treatment, web (1), and the heating element (6) includes elasticity (13) so that the heating element follows the sliding surface being treated uniformly and substantially with a standard pressure.

For efficient waxing of the running surface of a workpiece such as a snowboard, one or more skis, or a toboggan, the invention provides a single wax-heating element in the form of an elongate flexible sheet sized to fully cover the running surface when upside down and horizontally oriented. The single sheet of the heating element also provides articulating connection between an array of like transverse elements which gravitationally load the heating element sheet into self-adapting conformance with flat or concave and convexly curved features of the workpiece, so that a wax-laden sheet draped over the running surface of the workpiece can be gravitationally loaded by the heating element sheet.

A ski wax applicator for applying melted wax to the running surface of a ski comprises a housing including proximal and distal handle portions for manually manipulating the device over the ski running surfacae. Within the housing a wax container is removably provided into which wax may be deposited and melted via an internal heating element. The melted wax travels from holes in the bottom of the container at a controlled rate through a plurality of linearly spaced, wax permeable wicks positioned colinearly within heat conductive pipes or conduits. These small wicks extend into linearly spaced bores in a large wick which is removably positioned at the bottom of the housing for engagement with the ski surface, extending laterally across the full width of the ski. A pair of spring loaded, rectilinear bars are located, one on each side of and parallel to the large wick. As the device is drawn in one direction along the ski surface, the proximal bar heats the ski surface to increase the porosity thereof. The melted wax is then deposited by the large wick, followed by a smoothing and polishing by the heated distal bar. Only one stroke of the device over the ski surface is necessary.

A ski waxing machine (10) includes a housing (12), a pair of parallel oblong recesses, each one to receive one ski are provided in a deck wall of the housing (12). Two rows of supporting elements (18) are provided to completely close the recesses from below and to support the skis. Each row includes a multiplicity of supporting elements which individually can be displaced laterally into a rest position to open an area of the recess respectively. A longitudinally reciprocating slide includes a waxing device for applying wax to the running surfaces of the skis and tracks to individually retract the supporting elements from their supporting positions upon approach of the slide and to return the supporting elements when the slide has passed.

Skis are waxed by a heated sole plate 18 with a porous insert 42 which is flexibly applied to the gliding surface and can be shifted in a longitudinal direction. The insert absorbs wax 50 from a tub 48 heated to a pasty consistency. Porous sheet material 46 may be applied between the sole and the gliding surface. The treatment can include the removal of remnants of old wax from the gliding surface, which is absorbed by the sheet material and softened by heating the gliding surface with the sole. The wax penetrates into the micro cavities of the ski bottom coating and any scratches in it, and the sheet material ensures that a smooth, flat and flexible layer is formed on the gliding surface.

A combination waxing device and edge sharpener for skis having a combined file guide and waxing surface; the file being adjustably securable to a lateral side substantially perpendicular to the guide surface. A wax container is provided on the opposite side of the device from the guide and waxing surface and channels are provided through which the melted wax is delivered to the waxing surface to be applied to the skis. Two means of heating the device are provided to melt the wax placed in the container; one is an alcohol burner of predetermined proportions which heats the device through at least one flue extending through the device adjacent the wax container, and the second means of heating is an electric heating rod which may be placed within the flue so as to provide continuous heat to the device for extended use.

A tool in its preferred form includes a body, a file carried by the body for filing the bottom and side edges of a ski, a scraping blade carried by the body to remove excess wax and filler and to press wax into the ski surface, and a cork block to serve as a handle and to polish a ski bottom surface. The body may be of any desired shape but is preferably right triangular in planform and shallow compared to its lateral and longitudinal dimensions. A first face has a seat for a file along its diagonal aft margin and a guide wall along its longitudinal side margin which guides the body for longitudinal movement along the ski with the file crossing the ski bottom diagonally. The forward end contains a seat to hold a scraper blade for scraping excess filler and wax from the bottom and for pressing wax into the ski surface. The cork block protrudes from the second face of the body to serve as a handle and also to polish the waxed ski surface. One or more protuberances extend from the body with a cross section corresponding to the cross section of a ski center groove and are used to remove excess plastic filler and wax therefrom.
