Abstract: A capturing of target cells from a biological sample is achieved by inducing a flow of the biological sample in a flow channel (30, 60) of an upstream microfluidic device (1). Target cells present in the biological sample are captured in cell channels (20) of the upstream microfluidic device (1). Once at least a minimum number of target cells are captured in the cell channels (20), the flow of the biological sample in the flow channel is reduced and are verse flow is applied at the upstream microfluidic device (1) to release the target cells captured in the cell channels (20) of the upstream microfluidic device (1) and enable transfer the target cells into cell channels (120) of a downstream microfluidic device (100).

Abstract: A microfluidic assembly can include a first microchannel substrate defining one or more first microchannels, a second microchannel substrate defining one or more second microchannels. The assembly can further include a membrane positioned between the first and second microchannel substrates and comprising a first polymeric layer, a second polymeric layer, and one or more graphene layers disposed between the first and second polymeric layers. At least a portion of the first microchannels can overlap at least a portion of the second microchannels such that, when a first fluid is present in the first microchannels and a second fluid is present in the second microchannels, the first fluid and the second fluid contact opposite sides of the membrane.

Abstract: Provided is a spiral membrane element that has a restricted outer diameter and is capable of being decreased in operation energy therefor. The element is a spiral membrane element including plural membrane leaves in each of which a permeation-side flow-channel member is interposed between opposed separation membranes a supply-side flow-channel member interposed between any two of the membrane leaves a perforated central pipe on which the membrane leaves and the supply-side flow-channel member are wound and a sealing part that prevents a supply-side flow-channel member from being mixed with a permeation-side flow-channel member. This element has an efficiency index E of 0.005 to 0.10, and the thickness of the supply-side flow-channel member is from 10 to 110 mil.

Abstract: A fluid filtration assembly includes a filter housing having first and second ends and a connector for fluid communication with a fluid storage vessel. A filter element is disposable within the filter housing, and first and second pumps are coupled at the first and second ends of the filter housing. A controller may coordinate the operation of the first and second pumps to induce alternating tangential flow of fluid between the filter housing and the first and second pumps. At least one of the first and second pumps is a diaphragm pump or a plunger pump. The fluid storage vessel can be a bioreactor.

Abstract: A filter medium including: a porous first support; nanofiber webs respectively stacked at the upper and lower parts of the first support, and made of a plurality of nanofibers of which the diameters have a standard deviation of 300 nm or less; and a porous second support interposed between the first support and the nanofiber web. The filter medium is implemented by fibers having uniform diameters, and thus is easily manufactured to have a predetermined pore diameter and simultaneously has excellent uniformity of the pore diameters, thereby having excellent filtering efficiency and being more suitable when selectively separating specific objects. Backwashing is enabled at uniform pressure during backwashing such that high cleaning power is obtained. The filter medium has excellent water permeability and excellent mechanical strength so as to minimize the shape and structural deformation and damage of the filter medium.

Abstract: Module for gas separation that maintains moisture retention of a gas separation active layer at a uniform level has a composite hollow-fiber membrane configured as the interior of an exterior body and has a porous hollow-fiber support body and a gas separation active layer disposed on the surface of the hollow-fiber support body. The exterior body has a supply port and a discharge port for a first gas passing through the outer side of the composite hollow-fiber membrane, and a supply port and a discharge port for a second gas passing through the inner side of the composite hollow-fiber membrane. The first gas flows through a first space enclosed by the exterior body and the outer side of the composite hollow-fiber membrane and the second gas flows through a second space separated by the composite hollow-fiber membrane and the exterior body. The first space is filled with an absorbing solution.
