Abstract: A material, and filters and other structures exposed to flowing gas that have the material therein, which removes VOCs, such as formaldehyde, from the gas. The material is a porous sorbent impregnated by a metal oxide, such as manganese oxide (MnOx) nano particles. The sorbent may be activated carbon, and the manganese oxide may catalyze formaldehyde to water and carbon dioxide while the carbon may adsorb formaldehyde, both mechanisms of which remove the VOC from the air to prevent or reduce inhalation of the same by humans. The material may be combined with an untreated sorbent or sorbent treated with ionic alkaline salts.

Abstract: Amorphous silica-alumina support materials are provided that can serve as supports for polyamines. The silica-alumina support materials have a combination of properties that unexpectedly allow supported polyamines to retain an increased or maximized amount of CO2 sorption capacity after incorporation of substantial amounts of the polyamine on the support material. This combination of properties can include having a high pore volume, a high ratio of mesopore volume to micropore volume, and a sufficiently high acidity. The ability to allow supported amine sorbents to retain additional CO2 sorption capacity is unexpected. Additionally, the relationship between having sufficiently high acidity and providing improved sorption capacity for a supported amine material is unexpected.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides systems and methods for direct air capture of carbon dioxide or other gases through a calcium sorbent in a manner that allows for wide scale, relatively low cost implementation. In particular, a calcium sorbent may be provided as a substantially thin coating on one or more substrates and utilized for direct air capture of carbon dioxide through chemisorption. The carbonated sorbent may be disposed of for sequestration of the carbon dioxide or regenerated with capture of carbon dioxide released from the carbonated sorbent during the regeneration process.

Abstract: The technology disclosed herein provides a particulate filter that can appropriately avoid PM from passing toward the outlet cell and can exhibit an excellent PM capturing performance. The particulate filter 1 disclosed herein includes: an outercoat layer 20 provided on an inlet surface 16a of a partition 16 of a base material 10. The outercoat layer 20 at least includes: a lower layer 22 provided on the inlet surface 16a of the partition 16; and an upper layer 24 provided to cover the lower layer 22. The mean particle diameter of granules contained in the upper layer 24 is higher than the mean particle diameter of granules contained in the lower layer. The mean particle diameter of the granules in the lower layer 22 is from 0.4 μm to 2.0 μm inclusive, and the mean particle diameter of the granules in the upper layer 24 is from 2.0 μm to 7.0 μm inclusive. With such a configuration, PM can be captured in an inlet cell 12, thereby suitably avoiding PM from passing toward an outlet cell 14 and exhibiting an excellent PM capturing performance.
