Abstract:
A method of selectively reacting lignin or a lignin-derived reactant to yield an aromatic product. The method includes the step of reacting lignin or a lignin-derived reactant with a molybdenum-containing catalyst, in a solvent, and optionally in the presence of an oxidant, for a time and a temperature wherein at least a portion of the lignin or lignin-derived reactant is selectively converted into an aromatic product, preferably coniferaldehyde and/or sinapaldehyde.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are methods for synthesizing 1,2,5,6-hexanetetrol (HTO), 1,6 hexanediol (HDO) and other reduced polyols from C5 and C6 sugar alcohols or R glycosides. The methods include contacting the sugar alcohol or R-glycoside with a copper catalyst, most desirably a Raney copper catalyst with hydrogen for a time, temperature and pressure sufficient to form reduced polyols having 2 to 3 fewer hydoxy groups than the starting material. When the starting compound is a C6 sugar alcohol such as sorbitol or R-glycoside of a C6 sugar such as methyl glucoside, the predominant product is HTO. The same catalyst can be used to further reduce the HTO to HDO.
Abstract:
A method for preparing nanosized sulfide catalysts includes providing an aqueous solution having an organometallic complex, mixing the organometallic complex with a sulfiding agent, an emulsifier, and a hydrocarbon oil to prepare a water-in-oil nanoemulsion; subjecting the water-in-oil nanoemulsion to thermal decomposition and isolating a solid product from the liquid.
Abstract:
A novel method for catalytic dehydration of glycerol to acrolein is provided. A fixed bed reactor is used, which is placed in a microwave unit. The feedstock is introduced into the fixed bed reactor after being preheated and gasified. Continuous glycerol dehydration occurs in the presence of a microwave-absorbing catalyst in the fixed bed reactor to form acrolein. The microwave-absorbing catalyst is composed of an active component loaded on a core-shell structure which consists of microwave absorbent coated by an oxide. The uniformity of microwave heating can reduce the formation of hot spot during the reaction and hence improve the catalyst stability. The process and operation is simple, and the unit can steadily run for a long time.
Abstract:
Methods for converting an alcohol, such as cyclohexanol to a ketone, such as cyclohexanone, include reacting the alcohol in the presence of a catalyst and oxygen to produce the ketone. In one exemplary embodiment, the catalyst comprises a microporous copper chloropyrophosphate framework including a plurality of noble metal nanoparticles. In one exemplary embodiment, the noble metal nanoparticles include at least one metal selected from the group consisting of platinum, palladium, and gold.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a catalyst comprising (i) a semiconductor preferably comprising one or more metal-(Group VIb) semiconductors, and (ii) a semiconductor material having elevated phosphorous content preferably comprising one or more metal-(Group VIb))-phosphorous species.
Abstract:
The invention pertains to a catalyzed particulate filter provided in its entire dispersion side and within its partition walls with a first catalyst being active in selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides, and in its entire permeate side with a second catalyst combination with a catalyst being active in oxidation of ammonia mixed with a catalyst being active in oxidation of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons and a method for its preparation. The mean particle size of the first catalyst is smaller than the mean pore diameter of the longitudinal porous walls, and the mean particle size of the second catalyst combination is larger than the mean pore diameter of the longitudinal walls. In the example, the first catalyst is a silica aluminum phosphate SAPO-34 promoted with 2% copper and the second catalyst is a mixture of platinum and palladium (molar ratio 3:1) supported on alumina particles and beta zeolite powder with 1.0% copper.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a catalyst for glycerin dehydration, a preparation method thereof, and a preparation method of acrolein, and more particularly, to a catalyst for glycerin dehydration which minimizes by-product formation during glycerin dehydration to improve acrolein selectivity and maintains high catalytic activity during reaction.
Abstract:
A process for producing fuel cell catalysts includes a step (I) of heating a carbonitride of a transition metal in an inert gas containing oxygen, and a step (II) of heating the product from the step (I) in an inert gas that does not substantially contain oxygen.
