摘要: A technique related to sorting entities is provided. An inlet is configured to receive a fluid, and an outlet is configured to exit the fluid. A nanopillar array, connected to the inlet and the outlet, is configured to allow the fluid to flow from the inlet to the outlet. The nanopillar array includes nanopillars arranged to separate entities by size. The nanopillars are arranged to have a gap separating one nanopillar from another nanopillar. The gap is constructed to be in a nanoscale range.

摘要: A deterministic lateral displacement array that includes a channel, within a substrate, having a first sidewall, a second sidewall, and a channel length. A condenser portion that includes an entry port and an exit port. A first array of pillars is disposed between the entry port and the exit port of the condenser portion along the channel length, the first array of pillars operative to drive a first material particle and a second material particle towards the first sidewall of the channel. A separator portion that includes an entry port and an exit port, and a second array of pillars disposed between the entry port and the exit port of the separator portion along the channel length, the pillars operative to drive the first material particle towards the second sidewall of the channel.

摘要: A process for refining sand for use as frac sand includes the steps of passing the sand through a first fines separation stage to remove fine particles of contaminant from the sand, reducing the water content of the sand (such as to less than 20%), passing the sand into an attrition scrubber unit containing moving blades to delaminate clay and other contaminants from the sand grains, passing the sand from the attrition scrubber unit through a second fines separation stage to separate fine contaminants from the sand, and dewatering the resulting sand product in a further dewatering stage.

摘要: Disclosed are novel engineered fuel feed stocks, feed stocks produced by the described processes, and methods of making the fuel feed stocks. Components derived from processed MSW waste streams can be used to make such feed stocks which are substantially free of glass, metals, grit and noncombustibles. These feed stocks are useful for a variety of purposes including as gasification and combustion fuels.

摘要: An aerated grit tank is provided having a longitudinally extending control wall dividing the tank into parallel lift and settling chambers. An air discharge apparatus is provided at the bottom of the lift chamber to induce an upward flow of sewage causing a generally helical flow of sewage around the control wall. The control wall is supported in the tank by mechanisms selectively operable to vertically position the wall with a bottom longitudinally extending edge in predetermined spaced relationship to a bottom floor of the tank whereby the velocity of the cross currents may be effectively controlled. One form of the structure has a single control wall unit while a second form of the invention has two wall forming panels with an uppermost panel supported in fixed relationship to the tank and a lowermost panel supported for vertical displacement.

摘要: This invention relates to an apparatus and process for extracting bitumen from mineral particles such as sand. The invention avoids many of the problems of the conventional hot water or solvent extraction processes by using an abrading process to remove the bitumen or oil from sand particles, using cool water and little solvent. The abrading process involves agitating a pulp of tar sand and water, preferably with some small amount of diluent, and then moving this around an annular space at a speed low enough to allow settling of clean sand to form a sand bed in contact with the moving pulp, the speed being high enough to prevent settling of bitumen coated sand particles, so that the bitumen is abraded from the sand particles and rises in the pulp. Fines and clay which are removed with the water and bitumen can be separated from the water, after removal of the bitumen, to give a sludge suitable for mixing with the clean sand prior to disposal.
