Abstract: An underdrain system for a media pressure vessel has a set of removable pipe sections located between an external header and the bottom of a vessel. Septa extend upwards from the removable pipe sections into the vessel. The header is attached to the bottoms of the removable pipe sections. Each pipe section, and its associated septum, may be removed individually. To clean the vessel, after media is removed from the vessel the pipe sections are removed sequentially while the header remains otherwise attached to the vessel. While a pipe section is removed, its associated septum is removed so that solids can be removed from the annulus between the septum and the vessel. In this way, media can be cleaned from the annuli without moving the external header or entering the vessel.

Abstract: A system includes a laser drive assembly and a computer system. The laser drive assembly includes a laser that emits a laser beam to clean an end of a tube, a first motor that changes an angle of the laser beam with respect to the end of the tube, a second motor that moves the laser laterally, and a third motor that rotates the laser drive assembly around the end of the tube. The computer system is configured to clean the end of the tube by operating the laser to emit the laser beam, adjusting the angle of the laser beam with respect to the end of the tube by operating the first motor, adjusting the distance between the laser and the end of the tube by operating the second motor, and rotating the laser drive assembly around the end of the tube by operating the third motor.

Abstract: A polymer not including a fluorescent dye is introduced into an electrophoresis flow channel and electrophoresis is performed (Steps S101, S103), so that a fluorescent dye in the electrophoresis flow channel is removed from the inside of the electrophoresis flow channel by the polymer. The fluorescent dye accumulated in the electrophoresis flow channel can be adhered to the polymer having a certain viscosity and removed from the electrophoresis flow channel. Accordingly, separation performance of a flow channel member can be recovered effectively.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for launch and recovery of a remote inspection device within a fluid storage tank. In one embodiment, the tank is accessed by opening an entrance hatch and then injecting a vapor suppression foam across a surface of a stored liquid mass to form a foam layer. A launching system having a remote inspection device is attached to the entrance hatch to define a launch and recovery space sealed from an external environment and isolated from the stored liquid mass in the tank via a valve and the foam layer. The launch and recovery space is purged of hazardous vapors by injection of an inert gas prior to launch and recovery of the remote inspection device. Prior to removal of the launching system, the surface of the stored liquid mass is re-coated with vapor suppression foam.

Abstract: A defouling device for mechanically disrupting fouling material for removal from a pipe or other a tubular member. The defouling device has inflatable portions capable of expanding to mechanically disrupt fouling material within a pipe. The defouling device may be attached to an inner luminal surface of the pipe or formed with the pipe. The defouling device expands circumferentially and radially to mechanically disrupt fouling material. The defouling device may also controllably expand longitudinally to mechanically disrupt fouling material and peristaltically pump fouling material through and out of the pipe.
