An oil pan includes an oil reservoir and a pair of side walls facing the reservoir. A bulge is formed in each side wall. Each bulge defines an oil sub chamber connected to the oil reservoir. The bulges are formed integrally with the side walls by deforming the side walls outward. In other words, the bulges are not fastened to the side wall but are part of it. The oil pan is therefore easily and inexpensively formed by pressing. Further, since there is no joint between each bulge and the side wall, the oil pan has improved strength and durability.

A method for manufacturing a core plug from a core blank having an outer rim, a top surface and a bottom surface. The method comprises positioning the core blank into a stamping apparatus. Subsequently, a recess is stamped into the outer rim of the bottom surface of the core blank. Next, the bottom surface of the core blank is positioned in a blank accepting region of a second die member of a core die formation apparatus. The core blank is then propelled through an opening extending through the second die member, and, the outer rim is deformed inward and upward, thus forming the core plug. The deformation does not affect the recessed region of the resulting core plug. The invention additionally comprises a core plug manufactured by the foregoing method and a core die formation apparatus used in conjunction with the method.

The invention comprises a cam die. The cam die comprises at least one cam ring. The cam ring comprises a plurality of moveable cam teeth. The cam teeth are moveable on a normal toward an axis of the cam die by a cam actuator. The cam actuator has an inside diameter that is less than an outside diameter of the cam ring. As the cam actuator moves parallel to the cam die axis along an outside circumference of the cam ring, the cam teeth are progressively engaged and pressed inwardly toward a work piece. The work piece is moved simultaneously with the cam actuator by action of a punch that is concentric with the cam actuator and within the diameter of the cam ring. Each cam tooth is simultaneously engaged with the work piece as the work piece passes. A resilient member returns each cam tooth to a starting position after the cam actuator is withdrawn, allowing ejection of a finished part.

A color cathode ray tube comprises (i) a glass bulb comprising a substantially rectangular panel, on which phosphors of a plurality of colors are arranged, a funnel that is connected to a rear side of the panel, and a neck portion formed at a rear side of the funnel, in which an in-line electron gun for emitting an electron beam is arranged; (ii) a substantially rectangular shadow mask having a plurality of apertures that are arranged in correspondence with the phosphors on the panel; and (iii) a substantially rectangular mask frame having a wall portion that supports opposing skirt portions of the shadow mask. The surface of the shadow mask with the apertures is convex towards the panel. A central portion of the opposing skirt portion is convex in a direction of the tube axis on the side of the electron gun. Processing warps such as wrinkles in the skirt portions of the shadow mask are avoided, and a color cathode ray tube with good color rendition is obtained.

A method of making a can body of the type that has at least one axially extending rib formed therein includes a first forming step of creating a preform having a sidewall that has at least one axially extending rib formed therein and a bottom that is coextensive with the sidewall and intersects the sidewall at a rim. This first forming step is performed so that at least a portion of the bottom is recessed by a predetermined depth with respect to the rim. The method further includes a second step of performing a second drawing operation on the preform to form a can body having a bump-up bottom. It is important that the predetermined depth be sufficient to prevent the axially extending rib to be drawn into said bump-up bottom.

A method is provided for forming spline teeth on the walls of a press-formed sheet-metal article on which two peripheral walls of different diameters are disposed in a continuous manner via a step portion by means of a die with a plurality of steps of ironing surfaces, and a punch having a plurality of corresponding ironing surfaces. The punch is provided with a first punch and a second punch which are arranged in a split manner. The second punch first irons teeth on the larger diameter peripheral wall. While the first punch is next used to iron teeth on the smaller diameter peripheral wall, at least some of the pressurizing force on the second punch is maintained to avoid the creation of flaws in the step portion of the sheet metal article.
