Abstract: A structure for cooling a rake face of a cutting insert in a region near a tip of a cutting edge. The cutting insert includes a rake face, a cutting edge formed on an outer periphery of the rake face, a base portion that supports the rake face, and an internal cooling path through which fluid for cooling the rake face flows. The internal cooling path includes an introduction flow path and a cooling flow path, and the cooling flow path is disposed behind a region in which a chip of a workpiece comes into contact with rake face. The cooling flow path is provided at a depth of less than or equal to 1.5 mm from the rake face.

Abstract: A turning tool includes a tool body having an insert seat that accommodates a cutting insert and a mounting means for mounting the cutting insert at the tool body. A guiding block is movably mounted between a first position and a second position at the tool body. A fluid passage is arranged to eject a jet of cooling fluid from an inlet end to at least one outlet onto a clearance surface associated with a cutting edge of the cutting insert. When the guiding block is in the first position the jet of cooling fluid is ejected along a first line and when the guiding block is in the second position the jet of cooling fluid is ejected along a second line, wherein the first line and the second line have different orientations and intersect each other at a position in a downstream direction from the outlet.

Abstract: A cutting tool able to sufficiently supply coolant toward a cutting edge of a cutting insert during a cutting process involving grooving a workpiece face includes a first flow path through which coolant is supplied toward a body leading end side, a first jetting port, a second flow path branching at a branch point along the first flow path, a second jetting port, and a guide member having a guide surface distanced from the second jetting port and forming a space for coolant to flow to the cutting edge from the second jetting port. In the first flow path, a substantially straight upstream-of-branch flow path on further toward a base end side than the branch point is at least twice as long as a downstream-of-branch flow path from the first jetting port to the branch point. The second flow path inclines at a 30° to 85° angle to the upstream-of-branch flow path.

Abstract: A cutting tool with through coolant has an elongated shank and a cutting portion. The cutting portion is configured to remove material from a workpiece by cutting. An outer peripheral surface of the shank is configured to be surrounded and tightly held by a hole-wall defined by a tool-fixing hole of a machine tool. At least one coolant-guiding recess is formed in the outer peripheral surface of the shank and extends along a lengthwise direction of the shank. Each coolant-guiding recess forms a coolant channel together with the hole-wall of the tool-fixing hole. An end of the coolant channel is connected to a coolant-supply system. The coolant channel formed by the coolant-guiding recess enables coolant from the coolant-supply system to be jetted toward the cutting portion. The cutting tool provides through coolant without drilled holes, thereby saving cost.

Abstract: An insert holder has a holder longitudinal axis defining opposite forward to rearward directions, a holder end surface located at a forward end thereof, and a holder peripheral surface extending circumferentially about the holder longitudinal axis. Abstract: An indexable parting blade has opposite blade first and second sides, a blade peripheral edge, a central index axis, and at least first, second and third insert pockets located along the blade peripheral edge. The parting blade also has first, second and third coolant channels, each forming a coolant path from a corresponding inlet to a corresponding one of the insert pockets. Each coolant channel includes a rake outlet opening out to a rake side of its corresponding insert pocket and a relief outlet opening out to a relief side of that same insert pocket. The inlet corresponding to a given coolant channel is located further from that coolant channel's insert pocket than at least one of (a) the inlet corresponding to a different coolant channel, and (b) the central index axis.

Abstract: An elongated tool holder includes a mass housing portion having a housing peripheral surface, an outer sleeve having a sleeve hole wall surface, and an anti-vibration arrangement. An elongated groove is formed in one of the housing peripheral surface and the sleeve hole wall surface. In an assembled state of the tool holder, the groove, which is located at a common interface of the housing peripheral surface and the sleeve hole wall surface, forms a groove coolant channel. The groove coolant channel forms part of an overall tool holder coolant channel which is spaced apart from the anti-vibration arrangement, and thus isolates the coolant from the anti-vibration arrangement. A cutting tool incorporates the tool holder.
