摘要: A method and an apparatus are provided for inserting a fastener (3) into a flexible plate or strip (1) which shall act as a packing structure and which has a channel fitted with two lips (2a, 2b) partly closing the channel, the fastener (3) to be inserted between the lips. The method includes slightly bending the plate or strip (1) transversely to the direction of its channel in a way to spread apart its lips (2a, 2b), furthermore to insert the fastener (3) and to substantially reflatten the plate or strip (1) in order that the lips (2a, 2b) shall resume their initial positions.

摘要: A method and system for the manufacture of an assembly, such as an automobile body-in-white or sub-assembly, that comprises a plurality of components is disclosed. Selected from the plurality of components are components which can form an initial rigid structure. These selected components are then positioned relative to each other with reference to at least one reference point on at least one of the selected components. These selected components are then affixed to one another, by, for example, spot welds to form the initial structure. The non-selected components are then positioned relative to the same reference point and attached to either the initial structure or a component that was affixed in an earlier process. An assembly, such as an automobile body-in-white, will have reduced manufacturing tolerances when compared to the body-in-white manufactured in a conventional manner.

摘要: A pallet system 10 for use in a manufacturing process. The pallet system includes several pallets 14 which are adapted to receive and support a portion of a product, such as a vehicle underbody 12. The system 10 uses simplified pallets 14 having externally actuated clamping assemblies 62, 64, 66, and 68. A docking station 16 receives the pallets 14 and includes a pair of robots 24, 26 which detect the proper positioning of the underbody 12 upon the pallet 14 and externally activate the clamping assemblies 62, 64, 66, and 68 thereby securing the underbody 12 to the pallet 14. A controller 82 is communicatively connected to the robots 24, 26 and activates a conveyor assembly 20 which transports the pallet 14 to manufacturing stations 21 once the underbody 12 is properly secured to the pallet 14.

With respect to prior machines for automatically applying snap fasteners, the machine according to the invention provides the advantage that the snap fastener can be applied to a fabric with a proper riveting pressure, so as to prevent both excessive pressures, which could damage the fabric, and insufficient pressures, which could not provide a proper connection of the snap fastener on the support, from being generated.

摘要: A handheld installation tool for installing and removing vinyl and plastic resilient bumper inserts into the channels of gunnel rails on the sides of boats, motorhomes, and the like, as well as on the sides of tables, walls and shelves. The gunnel rail insert or the rub rail insert is placed in the handheld tool and is mechanically advanced while the tool is placed about and abuts against the gunnel rail channel. The tool has a single elongated handle on one end. On the opposite end is a pair of wheels that is positioned to run about the sides of the gunnel rail channels with a rear portion of the wheels abutting against the channels at a tilted angle of approximately 30 degrees to the channel. After the tool passes over the gunnel rails/rub rails, portions of the insert material strip expand into inside lip portions of the gunnel rail/rub rails locking the strip material in place. The insert material can be removed from the gunnel rail/rub rail by prying up an edge of the insert material feeding it into the wheels of the tool and reversing the installation steps.

摘要: Three-dimensional large scale bodies such as jumbo aircraft fuselages (14) are assembled in body sections around a central longitudinal assembly core (1) which itself is mounted at its ends and accessible all around along its length. Robots carrying tools for holding, transporting and precisely positioning pre-assembled wall shell sections, are movable along the central core (1). First, at least one floor grid (2 or 3) is releasably mounted to the core. Then, side wall shell sections (4, 5) are secured to the floor grids. Then, top and bottom wall shell sections (10, 8) are secured to the side wall shell sections (4, 5) to form a body section (BS) of the large scale body (14). Neighboring body sections are secured to each other along cross-seams. Upon completion, the floor grids are released from the core (1) and the core is removed preferably withdrawn longitudinally from the assembled large component or body.
