    摘要： A tool holder has compliance features that allow a hole to be drilled at high tolerances by a remote controlled control arm. The holes are drilled in a workpiece that has a template secured over it with guide holes for positioning the holes to be drilled. A self-feeding drill of the type that will simultaneously rotate and advance a drill bit is mounted in a support. A sleeve is carried at the forward end of the support for enclosing the drill bit. An index carriage moves the support forwardly into the guide hole after the control arm has substantially aligned the sleeve with the guide hole. Compliance mechanisms in the support allow the entire drill, drill bit and sleeve to move as a unit a limited amount parallel to and angularly with respect to the template and the indexing carriage, to allow advancement of the sleeve into the guide hole even though there may have been initial misalignment. The compliance mechanisms preferably include an inner guide member mounted within an outer guide member. Radially oriented, spring-biased pins retain the outer guide member. Resilient disks mounted in mating cavities retain and allow compliance of the inner guide member.

    摘要： A system for controllably positioning printed circuit boards or the like for the automatic drilling of holes therein. A plurality of individual work positions is provided, together with corresponding work carrier plates having individual or groups of circuit boards affixed thereto. Each work position includes a work table, a drilling machine with associated control equipment, a carrier plate for the circuit boards, and means for supporting the carrier plate and circuit boards above the work table with minimal resistance to lateral movement of the carrier plate and boards. The carrier plates are tied to a central drive system controlled by an automatic control unit in a manner which rigidly maintains close tolerances to lateral movement while permitting vertical displacement relative to the work tables. A master table is included for the drilling of a master template and to prevent displacement errors in the holes to be drilled. The drilling machines employed in the system may be independently activated in accordance with the quantity of production and the number of work positions needed in any given hole drilling operation and incorporate various interlocked fail-safe mechanism, some of which are individually adjustable, to simplify the construction and operation of the system while insuring coordinated control of the plurality of drilling machines.

    摘要： A layout tool for defining points on rolled metal H beams comprises a U shape frame having a hand hold in the bight of the U. One leg of the frame is longer than the other and terminates at its end in a stabilizing and guide member extending perpendicular thereto. The guide member has a flat wear surface adapted to be positioned against the working line of the beam on the external surface of the beam to which all measurements are taken. The other leg of the frame slidingly supports in a channel provided therein a T scale having a flat stabilizing base member adapted to rest on the web of the beam. A locking mechanism is provided in the second leg which includes a thumb screw for locking the scale in position in the channel. The scale is disposed at right angles to the legs and the stabilizing and guide member such that the layout tool allows orthogonal lines to be scribed in any one position of the tool.
