Abstract: Through-thickness permeable prepregs comprise a fiber bed and a plurality of discrete resin regions on a surface of the fiber bed separated by exposed fiber bed surface regions. Prepreg assemblies for processing such prepregs comprise an air permeable resin barrier material disposed over a surface of the prepreg opposite a forming tool. The air permeable resin barrier material is permeable to air or gas passing from the prepreg and is impermeable to resin passing from the prepreg. During processing, the prepreg assembly is subjected to a vacuum and elevated temperature to cure the resin and form a composite part. During processing, the air permeable resin barrier material prevents unwanted resin bleed from the prepreg, causing resin pressure in the prepreg to be maintained that reduces or eliminates unwanted formation or growth of internal voids to provide a composite part having a reduced degree of internal voids and pores.

Abstract: A re-circulatory blasting device obtained is capable of performing stable treatment for a prolonged period of time even in cases in which an elastic abrasive employed has abrasive grains adhered to the surface of elastic cores. An elastic abrasive regeneration device provided to the blasting device regenerates elastic abrasive employed for re-circulation. The elastic abrasive regeneration device includes a mixer and a combining unit. Recovered abrasive fed in from an abrasive recovery section is mixed in the mixer with abrasive grains fed in from an abrasive grain feeder, and the abrasive grains are adhered to the surface of the cores of the recovered abrasive. In the combining unit, the abrasive grains are pressed against and combined to the surface of the cores by passing an aggregated state of the recovered abrasive mixed by the mixer along a constricted flow path having a flow path cross-sectional area that gradually narrows.

Abstract: A method of forming a composite material includes mixing granules of thermoplastic(s) and granules of reinforcing material(s) using a mixer with an interior friction coating. The friction generated by interaction between the granules and friction coating causes granules of at least one of the thermoplastic(s) to be heated to a liquid or semi-liquid state. The liquid/semi-liquid thermoplastic(s) act a binder for the mixed material. A system for forming such a composite material includes such a mixer with an interior friction coating. The system may also include a mould and/or a press for forming material produced by the mixer into a finished shape. The method and system may use post-consumer and post-industrial material as an input allowing such material to be recycled. In some cases, cross-contaminated or mixed post-consumer/post-industrial material may be recycled, potentially reducing environmental impacts.

More specifically, for example, the disclosure relates to use of a certain “PEEK-PEDEK” copolymer in low-pressure consolidation methods, using as little as 1 bar pressure (or using atmospheric pressure acting on a consolidation that is held under vacuum) to provide composite parts that are substantially void-free.

Abstract: Provided are a method and an apparatus for manufacturing a fiber-reinforced resin molding material by which, when the fiber-reinforced resin molding material is manufactured, separated fiber bundles can be supplied to a cutting machine in stable condition while avoiding the influence of meandering of the fiber bundles or slanting or meandering of filaments occurring in the fiber bundles. A method for manufacturing a sheet-shaped fiber-reinforced resin molding material in which spaces between filaments of cut-out fiber bundles (CF) are impregnated with resin includes, so that a condition of the following expression (1) is satisfied, intermittently separating fibers of the continuous fiber bundles (CF) in a longitudinal direction by a rotational blade (18) serving as a fiber separating part and cutting out the fiber bundles with an interval therebetween in a longitudinal direction of a cutting machine (13A) to obtain the cut-out fiber bundles (CF). Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for handling objects. One embodiment is an apparatus for handling objects. The apparatus includes a vacuum securement head. The vacuum securement head includes a strongback, and an array of end effectors arranged at the strongback in conformance with a contour. The contour is complementary to a pickup tool. The array of end effectors is configured to pickup objects at the pickup tool. The vacuum securement head also includes an impermeable membrane that is penetrated by the end effectors, and a vacuum system configured to provide suction through the end effectors. The suction is configured to remove air between the impermeable membrane and a rigid tool, and offset air leaks between the impermeable membrane and the rigid tool.
