Abstract: A panel for a vehicle interior, may comprise a first layer made from a first composite material, the first composite material comprising a first thermoplastic polymer component and a plurality of first natural fibers embedded in the first thermoplastic polymer component. The panel may further comprise a second layer made from a second composite material, the second composite material comprising a second thermoplastic polymer component and a plurality of second natural fibers embedded in the second thermoplastic polymer component. An average length of the plurality of first natural fibers is smaller than an average length of the plurality of second natural fibers.

Abstract: A fiber reinforced composite component may include interleaved textile layers and ceramic particle layers coated with matrix material. The fiber reinforced composite component may be fabricated by forming a fibrous preform and densifying the fibrous preform. The fibrous preform may be fabricated by forming a first ceramic particle layer over a first textile layer, disposing a second textile layer over the first ceramic particle layer, forming a second ceramic particle layer over the second textile layer, and disposing a third textile layer over the second ceramic particle layer.

Abstract: A method of forming an integral fastener for a ceramic matrix composite component comprises the steps of forming a fiber preform with an opening, forming a fiber fastener, inserting the fiber fastener into the opening, and infiltrating a matrix material into the fiber preform and fiber fastener to form a ceramic matrix composite component with an integral fastener. Abstract: Compaction systems and methods of compacting components are provided. In one aspect, a laminate of a component can be laid up on a tool of a compaction system. The laminate defines a cavity. A noodle is positioned relative to or in the cavity. A noodle ring is then positioned relative to the noodle. For instance, the noodle ring can be placed over the noodle. A cross section of the noodle ring can be shaped complementary to a cross section of the noodle. A plunger of the compaction system is moved so that it engages the noodle ring. Particularly, the plunger is moved in such a way that a force is applied on the noodle ring so that the noodle ring compacts the noodle into the cavity.

Abstract: A method for producing a fiber-reinforced plastic outer skin component for a vehicle includes the following steps: a) providing a semifinished fiber product which includes at least one fiber layer with predetermined fiber orientation; b) applying an uncured plastic matrix in the form of an epoxy resin-based or polyurethane-based matrix system to the semifinished fiber product; c) placing the semifinished fiber product provided with plastic matrix into a mold; and d) pressing the semifinished fiber product in the mold in order to shape and cure the semifinished fiber product to form a fiber-reinforced plastic component. A shrinkage-reducing additive in the form of filler particles is admixed with the uncured plastic matrix and the uncured plastic matrix is applied to the surface of the semifinished fiber product that in the finished component faces the visible side of the component.
