    摘要: A drive unit for driving a press uses a hydraulically actuated oil shear brake unit located on one side of a flywheel and a hydraulically actuated oil shear clutch unit located on the opposite side of the flywheel. The actuating assemblies for the oil shear brake unit and the oil shear clutch unit can be supplied as complete assemblies which are secured to the brake housing and clutch housing, respectively, at the time of assembly of the units to the press. The actuation of the clutch unit and the brake unit occur simultaneously and from the same hydraulic pressure source such that the overlap between the two units is controllable from no overlap to a specified amount of overlap where the brake unit is applied simultaneously with the engagement of the clutch for a specified amount of time.

    摘要: A two-speed press drive is manufactured as a complete assembly eliminating the requirement that the drive be assembled at the location of the press. The two-speed drive includes a stationary quill, an output shaft and a planetary gear set. The planetary gear set includes a first sun gear connected to the stationary quill, a second sun gear rotatably connected to the stationary quill, a planetary gear carrier rotatably connected to the stationary quill and three compound planetary gears rotatably connected to the carrier and meshing with both the first and second sun gears. The input to the two-speed drive is through the planetary gear carrier. A high speed clutch connects the carrier directly to the output shaft for high speed operation. A low speed clutch connects the second sun gear to the output shaft for high speed operation. A housing in conjunction with the carrier define a sealed cavity within which the components of the drive operate.

    摘要: A press including a flywheel which is axially shifted along the quill to which it is rotatably mounted from an idle position to an engaged position during engagement of the flywheel by the clutch connected to the press crankshaft, and which is axially biased to the idle position when the clutch is subsequently disengaged. The press includes a rigid drive disk, connected to the flywheel for rotation therewith, that is engaged by a clutch mechanism to drivingly couple the press crankshaft to the flywheel. The rigid drive disk and the flywheel are both axially shifted during clutch engagement. Spring elements between the quill or non-rotating press frame and the flywheel are compressed when the flywheel is so shifted, and these spring elements return or axially shift the flywheel and drive disk to an idle position when the clutch mechanism is subsequently disengaged.

    摘要: A mechanical press including a two part drive disk assembly to permit radial expansion in the drive disk, reduces or eliminates axial movement and/or axial closeout of the drive disk caused by thermal expansion of the drive disk. The drive disk is attached to an adapter plate by a plurality of flexible straps centrally attached to the circumferential edge of the drive disk and at the ends to flanges on the adapter plate. The adapter plate is connected to the conventional clutch plate of the press. During operation, the drive disk expands due to frictional heating in a radial direction as permitted by the flexible straps. In one form of the invention, the flexible straps are stacked and constructed from stainless steel.

A cylinder member surrounds the shaft at a position between a brake and a clutch of the device and is urged toward the brake by springs. Air is introduced into a cylinder chamber to urge the cylinder member against the force of the springs toward the clutch. A cover member closes the open end of the recess, and an oil supplying passage extends through the cover member into the recess to supply lubricating and cooling oil to the brake and clutch.

    摘要: A brake device for a friction press having a flywheel for driving a vertical threaded shaft, the flywheel being positioned between a pair of friction discs, the flywheel being driven in one direction or the other by the respective wheels. The brake device has a brake band generally in the shape of a circular arc which is engagable with the circumference of the flywheel at a position between the friction faces of the friction discs. The brake band is normally to be pressed by a tension spring against the circumference of the flywheel at all positions of the flywheel during its up and down movement, and a hydraulic device is provided which usually acts against the tension of the spring, to hold the brake band away from the flywheel but can apply the brake force instantaneously when necessary by ending the action of the hydraulic device.

The flywheel is mounted on a sleeve which is concentric with the output shaft and located between the opposite ends of the shaft. Clutch discs are cooperatively supported by the sleeve and output shaft, and brake discs are cooperatively supported by the output shaft and one of the fixed support members. The brake and clutch are alternately engaged and disengaged by means of a pneumatic piston and cylinder assembly concentric with the output shaft inwardly adjacent the other of the fixed support members.

    摘要: The specification discloses a transmission system for a press. A rotatable shaft is mounted within an oil lubrication housing and a flywheel is rotatably mounted in the housing about the shaft. A shaft extends through the oil housing for transmitting rotation to the flywheel within the oil housing. Low and high speed clutch assemblies are spaced apart along the shaft and include pistons selectively movable to engage the clutch assemblies. Gears are provided to transmit rotation from the flywheel to the clutch assemblies. A brake assembly is mounted between the clutch assemblies and includes friction surfaces carried about the shaft. The brake assembly also includes a stationary housing mounted about the friction surfaces and engaging the friction surfaces to brake the shaft when the friction surfaces are engaged. Brake plates are mounted on opposite sides of the brake assembly for causing engagement of the friction surfaces. Structure rigidly interconnects adjacent pistons and brake plates such that the friction surfaces are disengaged when either of the clutch assemblies are engaged.
