摘要： A film matrix is reproduced and altered by mounting a replacing image on a light transparent sheet over the image to be replaced on the film matrix. The image to be replaced is obliterated. The mounted replacing image and the film matrix are then double exposed on another piece of film to produce another film matrix with the replacing image appropriately inserted.

摘要： The font strip consists of a dimensionally stable photographic film on which have been developed timing marks and type characters. The font strip is accurately positioned on a rotating drum by guide posts which project through apertures on the font strip. The font strip is secured to the surface of the drum by the engagement of an end plate fastened to one end of the font strip, which end plate projects through pins mounted to the surface of the drum. The other end of the font strip is bent within a hooked end plate which engages a correspondingly tapered hook portion of the font drum. A tensioning mechanism associated with the font drum affords the necessary tension to maintain the font strip on the drum.

摘要： A type carrier of the type that is clipped to a rotary cylindrical holder-carrier device. The type carrier is suitable for selecting chosen type symbols in photocomposing machines wherein several type carriers with different groups of type symbols and/or code information are sequentially distributed around a peripheral cylindrical surface. This arrangement is characterized by the fact that the flat type carrier consists of a thin sheet of elastic material capable of being deformed to a partial cylindrical segment and that the material so used is of the type which is practically insensitive to mechanical effects such as temperature variation. The type carrier is located on the inside peripheral surface of the cylindrical carrier-holding device.

摘要： The photocomposing machine is adapted to provide over eight thousand characters during operation. Characters are arranged in bands on a plurality of rotating drums, and multiple character keys and alternate keyboard displays are employed to permit selection of a specific character. Basic functional codes such as keyboard identification, type font identification, and shift identification are used to accomplish drum and band selection. A character position code is then used to locate the character in the selected band on the selected drum.A method of justification for characters such as Japanese characters is employed wherein characters of different size are segregated into two groups. The space available from the characters in the smaller sized group is employed in justification.

The lens system comprises a plurality of objective lenses and a camera lens having optical axes parallel to each other and perpendicular to the character sheet. The objective lenses have focal points on the character sheet and the camera lens has a focal point on the photosensitive sheet and intercepts all parallel light quanta transmitted by the objective lenses.
