摘要: An object is to provide a thermal transfer printer having an inexpensive configuration and capable of making a tension given to an ink ribbon as constant as possible, even when a secular change and an environmental change occur in a DC motor used as a supply motor and a winding motor. A supply motor control unit controls a supply motor of an ink ribbon supply unit. A winding motor control unit controls a winding motor of an ink ribbon winding unit. A remaining amount detection unit detects a remaining amount of an ink ribbon. A variable calculation unit acquires parameters for an armature current, an applied voltage, and a rotational speed of each of the supply motor and the winding motor, and calculates variables to be used for controlling the supply motor and the winding motor on the basis of the acquired parameters.

摘要: A printer with a single motor system to match torques between ribbon supply and ribbon take-up is provided. The printer comprises a ribbon supply spindle, a take-up ribbon spindle, sensors to output ribbon width and diameter at ribbon supply, and a sensor which outputs ribbon diameter at ribbon take-up. The printer is provided with a drive system providing rotation to the ribbon supply via tension on the ribbon loaded on the ribbon supply spindle and taken-up on the take-up ribbon spindle. Firmware, communicatively linked to the sensors and the drive system, is configured to calculate ribbon tension at the ribbon supply spindle, to calculate the torque required on the ribbon on the ribbon take-up spindle to match the ribbon tension at the take-up spindle to the ribbon tension at the ribbon supply spindle, and to adjust the drive system to match these torques.

摘要: To provide a printing apparatus capable of preventing the image quality from deteriorating, the printing apparatus is provided with a ribbon 41 laid between spools 43, 44, DC motors Mr3, Mr1 for rotating these spools, driver for supplying driving power to the motors, encoders for detecting rotation amounts of the motors, and controller that controls the driver. A CPU drives the motor without the tension due to the ribbon 41 being applied, calculates the rotation velocity of the motor based on the rotation amount of the motor detected in the encoder, applies the calculated rotation velocity and the supply current in driving the motor to the relationship between the rotation velocity and the supply current in a reference motor, and calculates the supply current for providing the same rotation velocity as the rotation velocity in driving the reference motor with the supply current of the time the motor is driven.

摘要: A thermal transfer printer incorporating a tape drive comprising a first torque-controlled motor and a second position-controlled motor, two tape spool supports on which spools of tape may be mounted, each spool being drivable by a respective one of said motors, and a controller for controlling the energization of the motors such that the tape may be transported in at least one direction between spools mounted on the spool supports. The controller is arranged to determine a control signal to be provided to the torque-controlled motor to set the tape tension, and to provide said control signal to the torque-controlled motor, determination of the control signal including determination of a component intended to compensate for the inertia of a spool of tape driven by the torque-controlled motor.

摘要: A thermal printer having a supply of media with a rotatable platen on which the media is moved for printing by a thermal printing head. A supply spindle supplies print ribbon from a supply spool mounted thereon, and a take-up spindle takes up the used print ribbon on a take-up spool. The spindles are each driven by a motor and controlled by a controller which detects the Back EMF (BEMF) of the motors, and calculates the velocity of the spindles, spool, and print ribbon to control each motor based on the BEMF. The status of the print ribbon as to low condition, breaks, ribbon full and other monitoring functions can be provided to a remote host computer or other monitoring station.

摘要: A method of calibrating a ribbon winding mechanism of a printing apparatus which is adapted to perform a printing operation in which at a printing station a print head is moved relative to a first length of the ribbon to transfer print medium from the first length of the ribbon onto a substrate and the ribbon is subsequently advanced a predetermined amount to present a second length of ribbon at the printing station for use in a further printing operation, the winding mechanism comprising a supply spool and a take-up spool and there being a ribbon path between the supply and take-up spool through the printing station, and a motive means to cause the ribbon to be moved along the ribbon feed path and wound onto the take-up spool, and a sensing means to sense movement of the ribbon as the take-up spool is rotated and to provide a signal to a control means in response, the method being characterized in that prior to performing the printing operation, the take-up spool is rotated a predetermined amount whilst the sending means senses the resultant ribbon movement along the ribbon feed path and the control means determines from the signal received from the sensing means the amount to rotate the take-up spool in the subsequent printing operation to advance the ribbon the predetermined amount.

摘要: This invention relates to a cartridge 11 for a printing ribbon 13 comprising a container 12 which houses an inked ribbon 12, a ribbon feeding roller 18 and a ribbon inking element 14. The inking element 14 is selectively actuated from a rest condition in which, during the cartridge utilization initial phase, the inking element does not supply the ribbon 13 with ink, to a work condition in which the inking element 14 supplies the ribbon with ink. A reducing unit 34 and a cam 33,42 are provided for automatically actuating the inking element 14 and guide it from the rest to the work condition, when a predetermined number of turns is reached by the feeding roller 18 for advancing the ribbon.
