    摘要: A novel printing apparatus comprises a single drive motor, rotational drive force reduction gears, a drive gear fixedly mounted on a rotary shaft and normally rotated by the drive motor through reduction gears, a base frame rotatably support the rotary shaft, a swingable support plate swingably supported to the rotary shaft, a printing drum rotatably supported to the swingable support plate and threadedly engaged with the drive gear, printing web feeding means for feeding printing web to face the drum, biasing means for biasing the printing drum in the direction opposite to the fed printing web, and novel forcible stopping means for preventing the drum to rotate around its own axis to thereby allow the drum to rotate around the rotary shaft against the biasing means while engaging with the drive shaft.

    摘要: There is disclosed a selection mechanism for a single element printer comprising an operating link connected with the print element for the driving rotation thereof and having a first and a second input portion, and a modifying member having the link mounted thereon for pivotal motion about the first input portion. A cam follower is provided on the modifying member for engagement by a case shift cam, which is operable independent of the print shaft, to shift between a pair of locations in either of which a first character selection means cooperates with the modifying member to position the latter in either of two distinctive positions so that the first input portion of the operating link is positionable to any of four positions. The second input portion of the link is associated with a second character selection means for positioning the link to any of a plurality of pivotal positions relative to the first input portion thereof. The selection mechanism is simply constructed by connecting all the input means to a single operating link mounted inclusively on the carrier and, therefore, the selection mechanism can be manufactured at a low cost. Maintenance and adjustment of the printer can also be greatly minimized.

    摘要: An electromechanical setting mechanism is disclosed, which uses a plurality of solenoid banks to set each print wheel of a postage printing drum. Each bank features two pairs of solenoids which are mounted upon a movable frame. One pair of the two pairs of solenoids cause the frame to move with respect to the meter housing. The moving frame in turn, positions a setting linkage which sets a postage value for a print wheel. The other pair of solenoids acts directly upon this setting linkage so as to also set a postage value for the print wheel. Each solenoid is actuated by coded electrical signals, and is offset from the center of a setting link a differing amount, to provide differing resultant settings. The actuation of any or some of the solenoids, will provide any given print wheel position from zero through nine.

    摘要: A single element printer is provided with a type action arrangement wherein character selection members are moved pivotally to determine the orientation of a single print element to print a selected type character by lugs on a pivotal drive lever carrying a drive cam which is rotatably driven by frictional engagement with a rotating power roll for imparting a cyclical driving movement to the drive lever. The engagement of the drive cam with the power roll is controlled by a control lever which is pivoted out of blocking relation to the drive lever in response to the depression of a corresponding type keylever. The control lever is momentarily moved into a ball ratchet to prevent the simultaneous depression of another type keylever and then slidably driven by the drive lever to an actuated position where it is pivoted under the urging of a spring for returning to blocking relation with the drive lever upon completion of the printing operation. To prevent malfunctions resulting from the simultaneous operation of other type actions, the movement of the cyclically driven drive lever causes a lock bar to be moved into blocking relation with the other drive levers to prevent another drive cam from engaging the power roll. Repeated printing of the selected type character is effected by further depressing the type keylever to further pivot the control lever and prevent it from returning to blocking relation with the drive lever upon completion of the printing cycle. In addition, other type keylevers are prevented from being depressed by a key lock bar which is moved into blocking relation with a stop projection of other type keylevers in response to the further depression of the selected type keylever.

    摘要: Keyboard generated signals are digitally encoded and converted to varying voltages for application to a coil for generating magnetic forces. The magnetic forces act on a spring mass system including a type disc to rotate the type disc to a selected angular position. The rest position of the disc at any selected angular position is established when the applied magnetic force and the force of an oppositely acting spring reach equilibrium condition. The spring stores or releases energy according to whether the applied magnetic force is greater or less than the existing spring force. The parameters of the system are so chosen that movement from one angular position of rest to another is smoothly accomplished in a given time.

    摘要: Mechanism responsive to discrete character signals is provided for selectively rotatably positioning a type disc clockwise or counterclockwise from a home position to present the selected character on the type disc for printing. The mechanism comprises a driven lever pivoted intermediate its ends which is cycled about its pivot in response to each character selector signal from a keyboard. When cycled, one of the arms of the driven lever is adapted to drive an associated rocker from a rest position and through its other arm is adapted to allow an associated rocker to be driven from a rest position. The movement of the rockers, the magnitude of which is determined by interposers representative of characters which are selectively interposed between associated arms and rockers at various distances from the pivot of the driven lever, controls the pivotal movement of associated frame supported crank levers spring urged against the rockers. The crank levers carry pulleys about which a cable is trained with one end of the cable secured to a frame part and the other to a spring drum on the type disc shaft thereby to rotate the type disc clockwise or counterclockwise according to which of the crank levers is pivoted and to a position corresponding to the angle of pivoting thereof.

The tilt cam and rotate cam are mounted so that they may be moved with respect to their support to vary the cam rise. The rise of the cam is controlled by interposers under the influence of the keyboard to select or define the amount of movement of the cam member, thereby defining the cam rise.
