摘要: The duplicator program control assembly includes a preparation counter responsive to cycles of machine rotation to program the machine through a preduplicating phase of operation and then trigger a postpreparation counter which responds to a sheet count during a duplicating phase of operation and a cycle count during a post duplicating phase to program the machine through these subsequent phases. The program control assembly also includes a master forwarding unit and a sensing unit operable at the termination of each operational cycle of the machine to sense the presence or absence of a new master sheet in the forwarding unit; the program control assembly operating to automatically initiate a new operating cycle if a master is sensed.

摘要: Auxiliary form roller apparatus is provided for rotary offset lithographic duplicating machines to increase the number of form rollers and more uniformly distribute the ink over the master cylinder. The apparatus has a frame formed by a pair of oppositely-disposed, substantially J-shaped support arms which are separated and joined by laterally extending support members. One end of each support arm is bifurcated to receive the main frame support rod of the duplicating machine and the other end of the arm is slotted to slidably receive and support one of the end bearings of a rotatable, auxiliary form roller which is disposed between the arms and is adapted to bear against the master cylinder at a location which is spaced a peripheral distance from the existing form rollers of the machine. A laterally-oscillating, rotatable auxiliary oscillator roller is swingably mounted on the support arms and is so disposed as to engage the auxiliary form roller and one of the existing form rollers of the machine to provide for uniform ink transfer from the existing form roller to the auxiliary form roller. The frame arms are apertured between the ends thereof to receive a laterally-extending, eccentric adjusting rod which also passes through and is supported by a pair of mounting blocks which are adapted to be secured to the main frame members of the duplicator to support the apparatus. Rotatable eccentric bearings are provided for the adjusting rod so that the axis of the auxiliary form roller may be suitably adjusted with respect to the axis of the master cylinder to provide a uniform line contact between the auxiliary form roller and the master cylinder.

摘要: The description deals with a process of duplicating page order sheets designed to greatly augment the output of existing office duplicators by preparing masters each of which carries the image of two pages of data. The master is placed on the cylinder with the page lengths axially disposed and the page widths peripherally disposed, and prints on long sheets each of which carries two pages of data side by side, each being placed in successive pockets of a collator. The stack of printed sheets in each pocket is then placed in a paper stack cutter and cut into two stacks of standard sized sheets. The present invention relates to the discovery that a certain page order sequence of originals can be devised which will allow the whole process to proceed in an orderly routine manner, materially simplifying the procedure for the operator.

摘要: A system and corresponding methods are disclosed for applying a dampening fluid to a reimageable surface of an imaging member in a variable data lithography system, without a form roller. In one embodiment, the system includes subsystems for converting a dampening fluid from a liquid phase to a dispersed fluid phase, and for directing flow of a dispersed fluid comprising the dampening fluid in dispersed fluid phase to the reimageable surface. The dampening fluid reverts to the liquid phase directly on the reimageable surface. In another embodiment a continuous ribbon of dampening fluid may be applied directly to the reimageable surface. This embodiment includes a body structure having a port for delivering dampening fluid in a continuous fluid ribbon directly to the reimageable surface, and a mechanism, associated with the body structure, for stripping an entrained air layer over the reimageable surface when the reimageable surface is in motion.

摘要: The duplicating machine includes an electrostatic copying unit, a conversion unit for converting each electrostatic copy to form a master sheet, and a duplicating unit for making a number of copies by direct contact between each master and receiving sheets. The stacking apparatus is mounted between the conversion unit and the duplicating unit and is adapted to stack masters in inclined relationship with a portion of the upper surface of each successive master in coextensive contact with a corresponding portion of the lower surface of the immediately preceding master. The stacking apparatus includes an inclined planar support with lifting means in the form of driven belts for engaging the underside of the trailing portion of each master. A control system permits the duplicating machine to operate in a continuous and fully automatic manner.

摘要: Positive-working lithographic printing plate precursors comprise a substrate surface having an average oxide pore diameter of 15 to 80 nm. On this, a crosslinked hydrophilic inner layer is formed using a formulation comprising: (1) a hydrophilic polymer having recurring —CH2—CH(OH)— units, (2) a crosslinking agent for these units having at least two aldehyde groups, and (3) an acidic compound. An oleophilic outer layer formulation comprises: (a) an infrared radiation absorber, and (b) an oleophilic polymer having at least 10 mol % randomly recurring —CH2—CH(OH)— units, within an organic solvent solution, and dried to form a composite structure. The composite structure is heated so its surface exhibits less than 10% optical density change within a first rectangular area (width W1 and length L1) centered inside a second rectangular area (width W2 and length L2), where the surface is subjected to 1000 rubs according to ASTM D3181 using the organic solvent solution.

摘要: Modular printing apparatus wherein multiple central-impression presses may be linked to one another, either directly or through a perfecting assembly that reverses the facewise orientation of cut sheets. The presses each contain circuitry defining a signal and control path for the press and a plurality of electrical contacts that renders the path accessible and facilitates serial connection of the presses without disruption of the path. At least one of the presses includes a port for receiving connection to a controller, which thereby engages the signal path and, via the path, operates the presses independently or together as appropriate. The system includes a connector that is used to couple the electrical contacts of one press to those of the second press, thereby establishing a single, continuous signal and control path through both presses accessible to the controller. The system can accommodate a perfecting assembly that may be selectably engaged between the presses, and which thereby becomes a part of the system. The perfecting assembly includes circuitry defining a signal and control path for the assembly and sets of of electrical contacts capable of mating with the contacts of two presses and retaining the continuous path.

摘要: A lithographic ink and moisture control system is provided for maintaining copy quality over a wide range of operating and environmental conditions without special operator assistance. The control system, among other things, momentarily increases the moisture feed rate each time ink is added to the system to maintain a substantially constant ink/moisture balance at the master, particularly under high coverage conditions.
