A data registering member stores parameters relating to the maximum permissible speed as a function of the distance travelled, and parameters relating to the required time interval as a function of the distance travelled. Means are provided for reading these two sets of data. Comparator means compare the real speed with the required speed and the real time with the required time, for controlling the traction and braking means of the vehicle.

A proportional speed control arrangement (100) is disclosed for use with vehicles requiring variable velocities of operation. Specifically, the arrangement is utilized with a traction motor apparatus (101) to provide velocity adjustments to a service type of vehicle via electronic circuitry responsive to signals generated from an interface controller (102). The interface controller (102) comprises acceleration switches (KI, KD) and an enabling switch (KE) which are responsive to activation thereof by external means to establish velocity command signals. The velocity command signals control the application of energizing signals to the motor apparatus. A requisite velocity is maintained by deactivation of the acceleration switches while correspondingly maintaining activation of the enabling switch.

In one embodiment, a propulsion system includes roaming vehicles including a reaction plate installed on a bottom of each of the roaming vehicles, a surface stator matrix installed with a running surface for the roaming vehicles and including single sided linear induction motors (SSLIMs). Each of the SSLIMs include two windings installed orthogonally to one another. The propulsion system also includes motor drives configured to electrically couple to the SSLIMs via a switching panel, and a control system configured to receive information related to the roaming vehicles, receive a desired motion profile for the roaming vehicles across the surface stator matrix, determine which of the SSLIMs to activate and a performance of the SSLIMs based on the desired motion profile, the information, or some combination thereof, and send control signals to the motor drives to control the SSLIMs to produce the motion profile.

Disclosed is an aerial transport system which comprises an aerial track having therealong a pair of electric current-carrying cables in a parallel relationship with respect to one another and with respect to the track, and self-propelled carriages. Each carriage has an electric current collector to collect electric power from the current-carrying cables and to supply the power to an electrical driving mechanism mounted thereon for driving wheels engaging with the track. The current-carrying cables are separated at longitudinal given intervals so as to define respectively independent electric power supply zones. The transport system further includes a system for controlling electric power supply for the vehicle or carriage including a mechanism for detecting a vehicle or carriage position in the track provided in each power supply zone. The vehicle or carriage position detecting mechanism has a circuit which is closed when the vehicle or carriage is present within the zone, and a detector for detecting an electric current flowing in the zone when the circuit is closed. The detector is associated with a holding relay control circuit. The holding relay controls an electric power supply control circuit having a controlling contactor connected with a contact of the holding relay.

A rheostatic control system for controlling the speed and the direction of rotation of a DC motor which is employed mainly for controlling the speed of an electric vehicle or the like. The system comprises a sliding-contact rheostatic unit which is provided between a DC power supply and a DC motor and which includes stationary contacts and speed controlling resistors, whereby the speed control of the DC motor is accomplished by means of the speed controlling resistors, and the rotation of the DC motor in either direction is controlled by changing the polarity of the voltage applied to the polarity changing terminals of the DC motor.
