The first canopy defines an interior volume and includes a first opening for receiving a flow of air into the interior volume and a second opening for permitting received air to travel out of the interior volume. The second canopy is then positioned over the second opening, and the internal structure extends at least partially through the interior volume and interconnects the first canopy and the second canopy. Air within the internal structure is directed out of the decelerator in the contraflow direction. The internal structure can be constructed of a plurality of venturi tubes to increase the velocity at which air is emitted from the decelerator.

The flight engine and all of its systems are completely independent of the conventional motorcycle engine used for surface propulsion. A set of laterally disposed stabilizer wheels is also provided for transition from ground to flight and from flight to ground operation. For flight operations, the lateral wheels are lowered and extended, the folding propeller guard is extended, and the parafoil is deployed behind the motorcycle, with the parafoil lifting conventionally upon attaining flight speed.

Load lines connect chordwise spaced portions of a ram air inflated, airfoil canopy to spaced anchors connected to a pilot supporting vehicle frame on which a forward thrust producing unit is removably mounted. The geometry of the assembled aircraft enhances take-off inflation of the canopy, establishes a stable flight frame when airborne, and enables simple engine throttle control of the thrust producing unit to regulate climb, descent and level flight. Common control is applied for both ground steering of the vehicle frame and airborne steering of the canopy.
