Abstract: The techniques described herein implement an automated frame skipping approach used to generate a reduced set of frames for processing. In one example, the automated frame skipping approach is used to more efficiently generate a stitched map of a geographical area being surveilled by an aerial vehicle, such as an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). A stitched map is an image mosaic that is created using the reduced set of frames such that the geographical area being surveilled by the aerial vehicle is accurately depicted.

Abstract: Tethered Unmanned Aircraft Antenna utilizing a Vertical Take Off and Landing (VTOL) Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) which may be provided by quadcopter drone (for example) constrained by a tether connected at one end to a maritime or land-based platform, the tether also being used as a RF antenna. The tether is capable of transmitting DC power to the UAS or drone at a desired antenna height and simultaneously supports RF transmission power with the help of a DC power isolation circuit. The tether is desirously lightweight and corona resistant.

Abstract: A flight imaging system and a method suitable where an unmanned flying object equipped with a visible camera and millimeter-wave radar is used, and a structure imaged by the visible camera and millimeter-wave radar mounted on the unmanned flying object are provided. A drone constituting the flight imaging system is equipped with a visible camera and a millimeter-wave radar. A processor of the drone performs control of the visible camera to capture a visible image of a surface layer of the structure, and control the millimeter-wave radar to transmit a millimeter wave toward the structure and receive a reflected wave of the millimeter wave from the structure, in a case of imaging the structure. During flight of the drone, the altitude of the drone is measured by an altitude meter mounted on the drone, altitude information indicating the measured altitude is acquired, and is used, in flying the drone.

Abstract: A method comprising receiving a plurality of images of a scene captured by at least one drone; identifying features within the plurality of images; identifying similar images of the plurality of images based on the features identified within the plurality of images; comparing the similar images based on the features identified within the similar images to determine a proportion of features shared by the similar images; selecting a subset of the plurality of images that have a proportion of shared features that meets a predetermined range; generating a first 3D model of the scene from the subset of images using a first 3D model building algorithm; generating a second 3D model of the scene from the subset of images using a second 3D model building algorithm; computing errors for the first and second 3D models; and selecting as the model of the scene the first or second 3D model.

Abstract: A method for controlling movement of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) includes controlling one or more propulsion units of the UVA to cause the UAV to operate according to a first set of altitude restrictions; assessing, with aid of the one or more processors and based on one or more criteria, whether to control the UAV to operate according to a second set of altitude restrictions; and controlling the one or more propulsion units to cause the UAV to operate according to the second set of altitude restrictions in response to the one or more criteria being fulfilled according to an assessing result. The first set of altitude restrictions constrain an altitude of the UAV relative to a first reference altitude. The second set of altitude restrictions constrain the altitude of the UAV relative to a second reference altitude.

Abstract: An unmanned aerial vehicle according to certain embodiments generally includes a chassis, a power supply mounted to the chassis, a control system operable to receive power from the power supply, at least one rotor operable to generate lift under control of the control system, and a winch mounted to the chassis. The winch includes a reel and a motor. The reel has a line wound thereon, the line having a free end. The reel includes a circumferential channel in which a wound portion of the line is wound onto the reel. The circumferential channel includes an inner portion, an outer portion, and a passage connecting the inner portion and the outer portion. The motor is operable to rotate the reel under control of the control system to thereby cause the line to wind onto and off of the reel, thereby causing the free end of the line to raise and lower.

Abstract: An aerial vehicle is disclosed having a hybrid drive unit and a rotor unit wherein the hybrid drive unit includes at least a combustion engine, a generator and a first electric motor and the rotor unit includes a first rotor. The combustion engine is configured to drive the generator to produce electricity, and the generator is coupled to the first electric motor in such a way that the first electric motor is feedable with electricity from the generator. The rotor unit includes a second rotor and the hybrid drive unit includes a second electric motor, wherein the generator is coupled to the second electric motor in such a way that the second electric motor is feedable with electricity from the generator. The first rotor is driven by the first electric motor and the second rotor is driven by the second electric motor.

Abstract: A control method includes obtaining an image captured by a photographing device, determining a location of a target part of a target object in the image, controlling, based on at least the location of the target part, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to fly to an expected altitude with a non-zero horizontal distance with the target part of the target object, and in response to a detected landing command, controlling the UAV to initiate a landing process. The expected altitude is an altitude at which the target part is located.

Abstract: The following relates generally to light detection and ranging (LIDAR) and artificial intelligence (AI). In some embodiments, a system: receives LIDAR data generated from a LIDAR camera; measures a plurality of dimensions of a room of the home based upon processor analysis of the LIDAR data; builds a 3D model of the room based upon the measured plurality of dimensions; receives an indication of a proposed change to the room; modifies the 3D model to include the proposed change to the room; and displays a representation of the modified 3D model.
