摘要： The present invention includes apparatus and methods for guiding a mail piece traversing a mailing machine. A multi-ski guide can include an inner ski with one or more contact bumps positioned to engage a mail piece prior to its edge encountering a stripper blade. The multi-ski guide can be attached to a take away idler shaft located just prior to the stripping blade. A spring can provide a normal force holding the multi-ski guide down onto the top of the stripping blade. The multi-ski guide can contact the stripping blade with a contact bump. In addition, one or more inner skis can include mail piece guiding contact bumps. Idler segments can be interspersed between the skis included in the multi-ski guide such that the idler segments can guide and straighten a mail piece approaching the stripper blade.

The die-cutting operation selectively bonds the successive front and rear bag walls together at or adjacent the cut edges of the vent lines, thereby allowing the bags in a bag stack to subsequently self-open when dispensed.

摘要： An endless carrier for a packaging machine includes leading clamps which are mounted on one endless chain and trailing clamps which are mounted on another endless chain. The chains are independent of each other such that the distance between trailing clamps and leading clamps can be adjusted simply by moving the position of one chain relative to the other. The present invention may be incorporated in a newly built packaging machine or a retrofit kit for replacing the endless carrier of a preexisting packaging machine. To provide for ready adaptation of the distance between leading and trailing clamps, one of the sprockets connected to the drive shaft of the packaging machine can be a phase sprocket capable of being fastened and unfastened to the drive shaft such that the chain can be rotated simply by rotating the sprocket relative to the drive shaft to reposition the endless chain relative to the other endless chain. Various components in the intermittent drive mechanism of the packaging machine may also be replaced to maintain a high speed of the packaging machine.

When an emptied carrier tape (23), after a component is removed therefrom, is cut by the edge at the forward end or at the return end of the reciprocal blade and the edge of the fixed blade at the same side as the cutting edge of the reciprocal blade, the cut carrier tape is sorted and collected in the carrier tape storage parts in accordance with a kind of the carrier tape. The carrier tape can hence be sorted and collected for every kind thereof simply by changing a drive direction of the reciprocal blade in accordance with the kind of the carrier tape.

摘要： In order to ensure the prompt processing of payments of bills with personal checks while using automatic mail opening equipment, a return envelope assembly includes a front panel and a rear panel each having a top edge, a bottom edge, and a pair of side edges. The front and rear panels are integral along their bottom edges about a bottom fold line about which they may be folded so as to have their inner surfaces lie in confronting relation after the envelope is formed from a one piece blank. A side flap is integral with each of the side edges of the front panel about respective side fold lines which are structured such that the side flaps may be folded inwardly to lie between the confronting inner surfaces of the front and rear panels. The side flaps are secured to the inner surface of the rear panel using an adhesive and a closure flap is provided to seal an opening defined by the top edges of the front and rear panels. With this arrangement, the side flaps each have a minimum lateral spacing from an innermost edge to an opposite one of the side fold lines or side edges less than the width of a personal check to prevent it from becoming lodged between one of the side flaps and the rear panel.

摘要： The disclosure relates to a method of producing packages with opening arrangements and of the type which has a hole prepared in the package wall through which the package is intended to be emptied of its contents. A web of paper or paperboard is coated on its one side with liquid tight coating of plastic and, on its other side, with a metal foil which serves as oxygen gas barrier and which is bonded to the paper or paperboard layer by an adjacent adhesive layer. The coated web or packaging blank is thereafter transported further to a packing and filling machine where the web is provided with emptying-preparatory holes before being reformed into finished packages in a conventional manner. The emptying-preparatory holes are made only partly through the web in that the web is first incised or cut along closed lines through the outer plastic coating and the paper or paperboard web down to, but not through, the subjacent metal layer, and the parts of the web enclosed by the incision lines being thereafter removed from the web with the aid of a vacuum. The removal of the above-mentioned web parts is facilitated in that the packaging blank is selectively heated in order wholly or at least party to break the bond between the metal foil and the paper or paperboard layer within the region of these parts.

摘要： An apparatus and a method for unwrapping stretch film from a palletized load. The unwrapping apparatus has two legs between which a load to be unwrapped is positioned, each leg including an upper and lower portion. Upper and lower grippers are attached to the upper and lower portions of each leg, respectively. The grippers are configured for engaging the stretch film and pulling it from the load. The unwrapping apparatus further includes a cutting unit including a cutting tool for cutting the stretch film. The cutting unit is preferably attached to one leg of the unwrapping apparatus. As the cutting unit moves vertically, preferably from a bottom position to a top position, the stretch film is pulled from the load by the grippers and a guide wheel and is cut by the cutting tool. Also provided is a spooler that may be used to spool and dispose of the collected, spooled stretch film.
