摘要： A strip accumulator for supporting a continuous length of strip material includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced stationary idler rolls for supporting an inner bundle of convolutions of the strip material on edge and an outer rotatable table surrounding the stationary idler rolls for supporting an outer bundle of such strip convolutions on edge. During overspeed filling of the accumulator, lifters are activated to facilitate transfer of the convolutions from the inner bundle to the outer bundle. Circumferentially spaced, radially extending skid bars may be provided on the upper surface of the rotatable table to reduce drag on the strip material during such transfer of the strip material from the stationary idler rolls to the rotatable table during overspeed filling of the accumulator. When the accumulator is filled to the desired capacity, the lifters are lowered out of the way so as not to interfere with the smooth transfer of the convolutions from the outer bundle to the inner bundle. Relatively short rods or bars are provided in the gap between the rotatable table and stationary idler rolls to prevent irregular or bent strip from getting hung up in the gap during transfer of the strip material from the rotatable table to the stationary idler rolls.

摘要： A cartridge for an endless magnetic tape which includes a tape reel, a pressure roller and a drive connection between the pressure roller and a portion of the tape reel. In this way, the pressure roller can be utilized to drive that portion of the tape reel with which it is connected. The tape reel comprises two discs each having a hub portion. The hub portions serve to align the discs in assembly. One of the discs has a plurality of rollers concentrically arranged with respect to its hub portion around which a tape roll is formed. The other disc has a plurality of tape-engaging ribs extending outwardly from one surface and a rotation imparting structure extending outwardly from the other surface.

摘要： The disclosure of this invention relates to a rotary strip accumulator for web-like material, such as, rolled steel strip, and includes inner and outer roller concentric baskets between which the strip is accumulated in the form of two distinct coils separated by a reversible loop of strip. The baskets are formed by a series of cooperating rollers and are supported by a frame in which the rollers are cantileverly mounted on the frame so that the coils are formed externally of the frame. The rollers of each basket are moved in unison by spider members supported by a common tubular member arranged coaxially with the axes of the coils.

摘要： A cartridge for an endless video recording tape includes a housing and a reel, upon which the endless tape is wound, rotatably mounted in the housing. The latter includes a peripheral side wall having at least one aperture therein through which a portion of the endless tape extends during use of the cartridge in a video tape player or recorder. A cover is slidably mounted in the cartridge for movement between first and second positions in which the cover respectively covers the aperture during storage of the cartridge and exposes the aperture during use thereof. In adition, the cartridge is provided with a latching mechanism which is responsive to the position of the cover thereby to prevent rotation of the reel when the cover closes the aperture and to permit free rotation of the reel when the aperture is exposed for use in a tape player. Moreover, a takeup mechanism is provided in the housing for taking up slack in the tape after the cartridge is removed from the tape player, thereby to facilitate storage of the tape and closing of the cover.

摘要： A reel hub and turntable are journalled to one side of a cartridge housing for receiving and supporting one side of an endless coil of magnetic tape. Tape guide means are attached to the sides of the cartridge housing for guiding the tape from the inner periphery of the coil past a reading or writing head opening and then returning the tape to the outer periphery of the coil. A plurality of elongated rib members project from the inside surface of the side of the cartridge housing which is opposite the reel hub and turntable. The rib members are radially oriented with respect to the turntable''s axis of rotation and are angularly spaced from one another around the axis of rotation. The rib members extend from the inner periphery of the coil of magnetic tape to the outer periphery thereof and act as a side wall for the coil of tape. The two ribs which flank the point where the tape is withdrawn from the inner periphery of the coil are shaped and positioned to act as abutments for limiting the tape withdrawal point to a predetermined angular range. The rib which is downstream from the tape withdrawal point has a mylar scraper attached thereto which bears against the side of the tape coil and prevents the withdrawn tape from being swept under the rib by forward rotation of the tape coil. The ribs which are upstream from the tape withdrawal point have notches formed in the radially inner ends thereof to restrain the inner coil of tape when it is axially displaced by reverse rotation of the tape coil.

摘要： A molded plastic spool having a tape platform for an endless array of magnetic tape and a hub with an upper hub extension thereon is formed in one piece to replace presently used twopiece spools. The hub extension, which has a larger diameter than the diameter of the lower portion of the hub joined to the platform, is formed to allow inward deflection to permit stripping of the spool from a mold. Preferably, the hub extension is segmented to provide individual segments which are deflected radially inwardly during stripping and then allowed to return outwardly when free of the mold.
