摘要: A web separating device includes a cutting/joining drum, which is rotatable in contact with web of optical film on a peripheral surface thereof. A cutting drum is positioned for contacting the cutting/joining drum peripherally, and has a cutter for cutting the web being supplied in a width direction in cooperation with the cutting/joining drum, to obtain upstream and downstream web sections. A joining drum is positioned for contacting the cutting/joining drum peripherally, and attaches a guide leader to a front end of the upstream web section. Guide rollers are disposed for allowing passage of the web and the upstream and downstream web sections in a non-contact manner before and after being cut or attached.

摘要: An accumulator for business forms is easily inserted into, or removed from, a path of continuous format, zig-zag business forms being fed from one business form handling machine (such as a folder) to another (such as a mailing machine like an inserter). A barrier having drive belts on one face is movable from a position allowing forms to pass under it, to a barrier position in which the forms engage the barrier and are slowly driven up the barrier until they bend over by their own weight onto a shelf. The forms are also driven along a shelf into contact with a stop, and a stack of forms is formed on the shelf. By handling the forms in this way the forms are creased along the perforations between the continuous forms (making subsequent separation easier) and prevented from developing a curl.

摘要: A variable capacity strip accumulator for steel strip travelling continuously from upstream reels of supply to a downstream treating or processing station, said accumulator having adjacent spiral coils rotatable on a common axis for accumulating a supply of the strip for continuous feeding cut of the accumulator despite a temporary stoppage of supply. In the execution of this objective, the convolutions of the two coaxial spiral coils of opposite hand are connected together by a transition curve into one continuous web. Strip guides for said curve first slightly twist the strip in the same direction as its first spiral to an extent of approximately 90.degree., while withdrawing it from the interior of the latter in the direction away from said coils and without substantially departing from its radius of curvature, crossing the axis at the farthest point. Continuing at the same curvature and rate of twist of 90.degree. on its return branch, the strip reaches, and is joined to, the second coil at a point substantially antipodal to the point of departure from the first spiral and twisted by 180.degree.. The above procedure results in the reversal of direction of winding of the convolutions of the strip in the two coils without subjecting it to any more tending than in the coils.

摘要: An apparatus for continuously accumulating a travelling metal strip or wire-like material in an accumulating space provided within a continuous annealing line, diffusion coating line or the like for performing a winding or re-winding operation for a time corresponding to a treating time. The apparatus has a pair of winding reel devices on opposite sides of the path of the material through the accumulating space, each having a rotary shaft and at least one arm extending radially of the rotary shaft and rotatable around the rotary shaft. Each arm has a folding back roll freely rotatably mounted on the outer end of the corresponding arm, and extending parallel with the axis of the rotary shaft. The locus of the axes of the folding back rolls on one reel device intersects the axis of the rotary shaft on the other reel device. Each of the rotary shafts has a reel receiver thereon for receiving the folding back roll on the other reel with the material therearound. The strip of material is engaged by the folding back roll and moved into the roll receiver to be held thereby, and the corresponding rotary shaft is rotated to wind up the thus folded back strip. At the same time, a portion of the double wound strip on the other reel device is unwound, and the remainder is drawn out from the apparatus. When the desired amount is wound up on the one reel device and the corresponding amount has been completely unwound from the other reel device, the operation is reversed.
