The tackiness of a terpolymer rubber of ethylene, propylene and a nonconjugated diene is remarkably improved by incorporating therein (1) an alkylphenol-formaldehyde resin, alkylphenolacetaldehyde resin, or alkylphenol-acetylene resin and (2) a thermoplastic resin produced by the polymerization of olefinic unsaturated hydrocarbons derived from the cracking of petroleum hydrocarbons, and containing substantially no aromatic hydrocarbons. This effect of the specific combination of two kinds of resin is synergetic. In addition to the improved tackiness, said rubber composition retains an excellent age resistance and a high capacity for loading fillers, both characteristics being inherent in said terpolymer rubber.

Sheeted rubber compositions of ethylene-propylene polymers having improved tack and easier processing and faster dispersion of compounding ingredients are obtained by forming a blend of the ethylene-propylene polymer and from about 1 to 50 percent by weight of a polyhydroxy 1,3-diene polymer, particularly a polyhydroxy acrylonitrile-butadiene polymer, having primary, terminal allylic hydroxyl groups and the majority of its unsaturation in the main carbon chain. Further improvement in tack is obtained by pressure treatment of these rubber sheetings against a ''''Mylar'''' or ''''Teflon'''' sheet. Sufficient tack is obtained so that the unsupported rubber sheetings will readily stick together during fabrication of rubber articles, such as tires. The compounded blend can be covulcanized to produce elastomers of good mechanical properties.

THE STYRENE TYPE RESIN CAN BE (1) A POLYMERIZED MONOVINYL AROMATIC HYDROCARBON OF THE BENZENE SERIES HAVING THE VINYL RADICAL DIRECTLY ATTACHED TO A CARBON ATOM OF THE AROMATIC NUCLEUS AND/OR (2) AN INTERPOLYMER OF AT LEAST 70% BY WEIGHT OF A LEAST ONE SUCH MONOVINYL AROMATIC HYDROCARBON AND AN ALPHA-ALKYL STYRENE. THE ALFIN RUBBER CAN BE (1) A BUTADIENE HOMOPOLYMER AND/OR (2) AN INTERPOLYMER OF AT LEAST ABOUT 45% BY WEIGHT OF BUTADIENE AND AT LEAST ONE MONOMER SELECTED FROM THE GROUP CONSISTING OF CONJUGATED ALIPHATIC DIENE AND MONOVINYL AROMATIC HYDROCARBONS OF THE BENZENE SERIES.
