    摘要： A process for aftertreating tanned leather and pelts to impart a very soft and supple handle and good fullness to them, which comprises subjecting the leather or pelts to an aftertreatment with a polymer which is obtainable by (a) polymerising a monoethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic anhydride of 4 to 8 carbon atoms or a mixture of said dicarboxylic anhydrides, and (b) thereafter partially esterifying and/or amidating the polymer with (b.sub.1) a C.sub.1 -C.sub.30 alcohol and/or a primary or secondary amine and/or (b.sub.2) the reaction product of (.alpha.) an unsaturated or saturated C.sub.1 -C.sub.30 fatty alcohol, a C.sub.8 -C.sub.22 fatty acid, a C.sub.8 -C.sub.22 fatty amine or a C.sub.8 -C.sub.22 fatty amide and (.beta.) ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide in the molar ratio 1:2 to 1:20, and, optionally, hydrolysing the anhydride groups of the homopolymer with an aqueous base.

    摘要： An additive composition for imparting caustic removability to a hot melt adhesive comprises a low molecular weight α,β ethylenically unsaturated anhydride-containing or acid-containing polymer. The polymer is selected from the group consisting of a low molecular weight carboxylic anhydride homo-polymer or the at least partial ester thereof, a low molecular weight carboxylic anhydride copolymer or the at least partial ester thereof, a low molecular weight carboxylic anhydride polyolefin, a low molecular weight carboxylic anhydride vinyl aromatic copolymer, and a low molecular weight carboxylic anhydride grafted copolymer, or the combination or mixtures thereof. A caustic removable hot melt adhesive composition comprises a hot melt adhesive additive and a conventional hot melt adhesive resin. A caustic removable adhesive label comprises a substrate and a caustic removable hot melt adhesive composition which includes an additive composition. The caustic removable hot melt adhesives can be used on labels for articles, such as glass bottles.

    摘要： Hydrogel materials suitable for use in bandages and the like have been made from modified copolymers of poly(methyl vinyl ether/maleic anhydride). The modifying groups are three to seven carbon amines, amides or alcohols having a terminal vinyl group which may crosslink to other such modifiers or to intermediary difunctional coagents. A method for REDOX initiated crosslinking and continuous casting of the hydrogel, on a support material suitable for employment in a bandage, is also disclosed.

    摘要： A method for the homopolymerization of maleic anhydride which comprises the controlled addition of a heated mixture of maleic anhydride, a polymerization initiator and a solvent for the monomer but not the polymer to a heated reaction zone containing a dilute solution of maleic anhydride in the identical solvent whereby the polymerization of the monomer and the precipitation of the polymer occur virtually simultaneously upon introduction of the feed monomer into the reaction zone. Maleic anhydride homopolymer and derivatives thereof may be effectively utilized in a wide variety of applications and, notably, as detergent builders and surface active agents.

    摘要： Provided herein are branched polymers synthesized from: at least one (A1) reactive monomer having a vinyl functional group, or (A2) a hybrid reactive monomer having (a) at least one vinyl functional group and (b) at least one reactive non-vinyl functional group; and at least one: (B1) branching agent having at least two N-vinyl formamide functional groups or (B2) a hybrid branching agent having (a) at least one N-vinyl formamide functional group, and (b) at least one vinyl functional group. The polymers exhibit branching behavior, which in some embodiments lends to lower viscosity, enhanced processability, and/or improved sprayability compared to a corresponding polymer of equal molecular weight synthesized without the second reactive moiety. Formulations with the invention's polymers also are presented.
