The present invention is generally related to various types of compositions that comprise a polyindane resin. In particular, the polyindane resins may be utilized in various polymer-based and elastomer-based formulations in order to enhance several properties and characteristics of those formulations. More specifically, elastomeric compositions are provided that comprise at least one polyindane resin, which may be used to replace or enhance the functionality of existing hydrocarbon resins used in elastomeric formulations. The elastomeric compositions may be used to produce various tire components.

Methods for reducing volatile organic chemical contents of carpet are disclosed which include fabricating the carpet from a plurality of yarn loops or tufts inserted into the backing of the carpet and then coating the backing with a coating composition which contain polymers characterized by an extremely low volatile organic chemical content. Accordingly, the coating compositions themselves contain reduced levels of volatile organic chemicals and, as such, the carpets coated therewith also contain reduced amounts of volatile organic chemicals.

Novel porous copolymers are disclosed which can be used to prepare ion-exchange resins and polymeric adsorbents. The copolymers comprise a copolymer of at least one monovinylidene monomer and a crosslinking monomer and have a unique cellular pore structure. The cellular structure comprises a macroporous void phase which is dispersed within a continuous copolymer phase. The porous void phase comprises a plurality of cellular void spaces which are at least partially enclosed by walls of the continuous copolymer phase. Also disclosed are processes which can be used to prepare the porous copolymers, as well as ion-exchange resins and polymeric adsorbents using the porous copolymers.

There have been provided by the present invention a higher .alpha.-olefin copolymer which has an intrinsic viscosity [.eta.], as measured in decalin at 135.degree.
