Abstract: A process for preparing multistage copolymers in the form of aqueous dispersions by multistage, radically initiated emulsion polymerization includes a first stage, second stage, and third stage. In the first stage, 20% to 75% by weight of vinyl acetate, optionally ethylene and optionally one or more further ethylenically unsaturated monomers are polymerized. In the second stage, in the presence of the polymer from the first stage, 1% to 25% by weight of vinyl acetate, 0.01% to 2% by weight of one or more ethylenically unsaturated silicon-functional monomers and optionally one or more further ethylenically unsaturated monomers are polymerized. In the third stage, in the presence of the polymer from the second stage, 5% to 40% by weight of one or more monomers selected from the group encompassing esters of acrylic acid, esters of methacrylic acid and vinyl aromatics and optionally one or more further ethylenically unsaturated monomers are polymerized.

Abstract: Process for the production of a polypropylene random copolymer (PP), the process comprising the steps of polymerising in a first reactor (R1) propylene and a comonomer (C1a) selected from a C4 to C8 α-olefin in the presence of a first metallocene catalyst (MC1) yielding a first polypropylene copolymer (PP1), wherein the ratio of the feed of the comonomer (C1a) to the feed of propylene is in the range of 1 to 100 mol/kmol and the MFR2 of the first polypropylene copolymer (PP1) is in the range of 0.01 to 100 g/10 min; transferring the first polypropylene copolymer (PP1) to a second reactor (R2); polymerising in the second reactor (R2) and in the presence of said first polypropylene (PP1), propylene, a comonomer (C1b) selected from a C4 to C8 α-olefin, and a second metallocene catalyst (MC2) yielding a second polypropylene copolymer (PP2), wherein the ratio of the feed of the comonomer (C1b) to the feed of propylene is in the range of 40 to 150 mol/kmol and the MFR2 of the second polypropylene copolymer (PP2) is in the range of 0.01 to 100 g/10 min; withdrawing the polypropylene random copolymer (PP) comprising the first polypropylene copolymer (PP1) and the second polypropylene copolymer (PP2) from the second reactor (R2); wherein the first metallocene catalyst (MC1) and/or the second metallocene catalyst (MC2) is a metallocene catalyst (MC) comprising a metallocene complex, and wherein the metallocene catalyst (MC) comprises a support comprising silica.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing a crosslinked polyolefin separator and the crosslinked polyolefin separator obtained by the method are provided. The method includes (S1) mixing polyolefin, a diluting agent, an initiator and alkoxysilane containing a carbon-carbon double bonded group to an extruder, and then carrying out extrusion to obtain a silane-grafted polyolefin composition; (S2) molding and orienting the extruded silane-grafted polyolefin composition in the form of a sheet; (S3) introducing the oriented sheet to an extraction water bath containing a crosslinking catalyst to extract the diluting agent and perform aqueous crosslinking; and (S4) thermally fixing a resultant aqueous crosslinked product. The method can provide a separator having a high meltdown temperature and improved heat shrinkage.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the production of modified polyethylene comprising adding a free radical initiator composition and a polar monomer in extrusion of polyethylene materials with a melt mass flow rate (MFR) as determined in accordance with ISO 1133-1 (2011) at 190° C. under a load of 2.16 kg of between 0.5 and 75 g/10 min characterized in that the free radical initiator composition is added in quantities between 0.01 wt % to 5 wt % compared to the total weight of the polyethylene material wherein the extrusion is performed at a temperature between 230° C. and 350° C. Such process allows for the production of modified polyethylenes, such as having an amount of grafted polar monomer, such as maleic anhydride, of >3 wt %, with low amount of free, unreacted monomer whilst maintaining or not significantly modifying melt properties such as melt mass flow rate.
