    摘要: Articles having reduced thrombogenicity when in contact with blood products containing albumin and methods of their use are provided. The articles comprise at the surface of blood contact a water insoluble polymeric substrate material having covalently attached thereon aliphatic extensions of 14 to 20 carbon units. When exposed to blood the aliphatic chain extensions provide a hydrophobic binding site for albumin. The articles when implemented with whole blood or blood products selectively enhance albumin affinity binding to the exclusion of other blood components, and subsequently minimize thrombus formation.

    摘要: Disclosed is a method for reducing the odor and/or improving the performance of polyester plasticizers of the type made from a dibasic acid, a polyol, and a chain terminator wherein a molar excess of alcohol ingredients is used. Such improved polyester plasticizer is made by subjecting the polyester plasticizer to a second stage reaction with a treating agent reactive with hydroxyl groups to reduce the hydroxyl value to no more than about 4. Preferably, the low acid number of the initial polyester plasticizer is maintained. The treating agent can be monofunctional or poly-functional, though preferably a difunctional isocyanate is used. Conventional thermoplastic substrates, typified by polyvinyl chloride, can be plasticized with the novel polyester plasticizers of the present invention.

    摘要: A process is provided for deactivation of catalyst residues in polyester compositions. The polyester compositions are provided by polymerizing diols and diacids, or mixtures of such diols and diacids, to form polyester compositions. The polymerization is carried out in the presence of a polymerization catalyst that leaves traces of such catalyst residues in the polyester composition. These catalyst residues can adversely affect the further processing and end use of the polyester composition. The present process provides deactivation of the catalyst residues by the use of a combination of a mono- or dihydrogen phosphonate or mono-, di-, or trihydrogen phosphate compound and a di- or triester phosphonate compound or a phosphite compound.

    摘要: The invention relates to a process for purifying polyphenylene oxides obtained by interruption of the copper-amine catalyzed polycondensation of di-ortho-substituted phenols, where in said process the reaction mixture is subjected to a "reaction-extraction" (i.e., an extraction which is accompanied by reaction) with water or stream, at a temperature of 60.degree. to 150.degree. C. It is particularly advantageous if the starting mixture in the inventive process comprises a solution of the polyphenylene oxide wherein the reaction has been interrupted by water and CO.sub.2, which solution is mixed into a toluene/water mixture; and further if the "reaction-extraction" is carried out in the presence of an alkanolamine and a stabilizer.
