    Abstract: A security feature for safeguarding a document of value, includes an organometallic luminescent substance which, on excitation with radiation in the UV-A range, has emission of radiation in the visible wavelength range, especially with green and/or red light, wherein the luminescent substance is based on a polynuclear, heteroleptic lanthanoid complex of the formula (I) [Mx(NN ligand)a(OO ligand)b] (I) where x, a and b are natural numbers, where x≥2, a≥2 and b≥6; M is a lanthanoid selected from the group consisting of Eu and Th; the OO ligand is a ligand that coordinates via oxygen atoms and the NN ligand is a nitrogen ligand having a phenanthroline base skeleton.

    Abstract: A friction unit includes a friction piece and a retention portion, the friction piece being configured to allow generation of frictional heat to cause handwriting in thermochromic ink to undergo a thermochromic change and the retention portion being configured to allow retention of the friction piece and attachment to and detachment from a barrel or cap of a thermochromic writing instrument. The retention portion has a tubular side wall forming an internal space opening at least downward, the side wall has at least one vent hole formed to communicate with the internal space, and air is allowed to flow between the vent hole, the internal space, and the downward opening.

    Abstract: A temperature sensor, and methods of making and using such a temperature sensor, whereby the temperature sensor includes a reversible thermochromic color-changing system having a dye, a developer, and a solvent. Upon exposure to a preselected temperature threshold, association or disassociation of the dye and the developer results in a visible color change. Further, the color-changing system includes a color-memory property which facilitates retention of the color change to effectively record exposure to the temperature threshold.
