Abstract: A process for producing a water-emulsifiable polyisocyanate formulation, in which, in a first process step, (A) a dispersion-active reaction product (E) is prepared from at least one diisocyanate selected from the group of hexamethylene 1,6-diisocyanate, pentamethylene 1,5-diisocyanate, 4,4′-di(isocyanatocyclohexyl)methane, 1-isocyanato-3,3,5-trimethyl-5-(isocyanatomethyl)cyclohexane, tolylene 2,4- and 2,6-diisocyanate, tetramethylxylylene diisocyanate, p-xylylene diisocyanate, 2,4′- and 4,4′-diisocyanatodiphenylmethane, with at least one mono- or polyhydric polyalkylene ether alcohol having 2 to 4 carbon atoms in the alkylene groups that comprises a polymer chain having at least 8 ethylene oxide units, and the resultant reaction product (E), in a second process step, (B) is mixed with at least one (cyclo)aliphatic polyisocyanate having an average NCO functionality of 2.2 to 5.0, preferably of 2.5 to 4.0, wherein step (B) is performed in the presence of an allophanatization catalyst and the conditions are chosen such that (E) and the polyisocyanate form allophanate groups, characterized in that the allophanatization catalyst is at least one salt consisting of a metal cation and at least one dithiophosphate anion.

Advantageously, the compositions of the invention can be used either as one component (1K) or two component (2K) ink systems. The compositions of the invention exhibit improved properties, such as ink adhesion ratings, as shown by a rub test, compared to commercially available inks designed to be printed on non-woven substrates.

The compositions can be prepared by reacting a bio-based polyol with an isocyanate and an ionogenic molecule. The compositions can be used to treat a variety of substrates to provide enhanced properties to a surface of the substrate. Also provided are methods for the chemical modification of triglycerides and fatty acids and use thereof in creating beneficial surface treating compositions.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are polyurethane polymers comprising at least one polyisocyanate, a polysaccharide comprising: poly alpha-1,3-glucan; a poly alpha-1,3-glucan ester compound as disclosed herein; poly alpha-1,3-1,6-glucan; water-insoluble alpha-(1,3-glucan) polymer having 90% or greater alpha-1,3-glycosidic linkages, less than 1% by weight of alpha-1,3,6-glycosidic branch points, and a number average degree of polymerization in the range of from 55 to 10,000; dextran; or a poly alpha-1,3-glucan ether compound as disclosed herein; and optionally, at least one polyol. Also disclosed are polyurethane compositions comprising the polyurethane polymer and a solvent, as well as polyurethane foams, adhesives, coatings, films, and coated fibrous substrates comprising the polyurethane polymer.
