Abstract: A system and method for separating a hydrocarbon feed stream by flashing the feed stream under vacuum to form a remaining flashed vapor comprising atmospheric hydrocarbons, vacuum distillable hydrocarbons and a non-volatile liquid; condensing the flashed vapor to a liquid using a two-stage condenser and heat recovery system; and recycling a portion of the condensed liquid to be flashed under vacuum. Separation is accomplished by combining atmospheric and vacuum separation in one column. The non-volatile liquid recovered from the vacuum vessel may comprise asphalt. This process also injects steam generated within the process into the vacuum vessel which is condensed in a two-stage condenser system to augment vacuum and aid in separation. The feed stream may comprise diluted bitumen which may be removed using a feed preparation vessel.

Abstract: The invention is directed to a process to continuously prepare a gas oil product from carbonaceous particles of a biomass source comprising the following steps. (a) contacting carbonaceous particles with a hydrogen comprising gas in a fluidised bed reactor in the absence of oxygen and in the absence of a catalyst, at an average solids residence time of between (20) and (120) seconds and at thermal conversion conditions to obtain a gaseous mixture comprising of hydrocarbons and char particles. (b) discharging the char particles and the gaseous mixture separately from the fluidised bed reactor. And (c) isolating from the gaseous mixture a gas oil product by means of distillation.

Abstract: A process for production of useful hydrocarbon materials from plastic waste and reaction system therefor is provided. The process includes frequentatively thermolyzing of high molecular weight hydrocarbons such as plastic waste to produce useful medium molecular weight hydrocarbons and low molecular weight hydrocarbons. The process utilizes low molecular weight hydrocarbons as solution reactants which helps in reducing the viscosity of the material for more effective heat transfer. The process also includes addition of one or more low molecular weight olefins and solution reactants to high molecular weight hydrocarbons to augment the free radical environment. The process also includes hydrogenating and oxidizing the high molecular weight hydrocarbons. The process enables production of the useful, predominantly hydrocarbon materials such as waxes, lube oil base-stocks, refinery feedstocks, intermediates or fuel additives. The present invention also provides a reaction system comprising thermolysis reactor including a primary zone and an optional secondary zone for production of useful hydrocarbon materials from plastic waste.

Abstract: A process for the production of a fractionated product is disclosed, comprising providing a solid hydrocarbonaceous material, wherein the material is in particulate from, and wherein at least about 90% by volume (% v) of the particles are not greater than about 500 μm in diameter. The solid hydrocarbonaceous material is combined with an unrefined liquid hydrocarbonaceous material, such as crude oil, in order to create a combined solid-liquid blend; and the combined solid-liquid blend is subjected to fractionation in order to generate one or more fractionation products. Typically the solid hydrocarbonaceous material comprises coal, optionally the coal is ultrafine coal, and suitably the coal is comprised of microfine coal. The coal may be dewatered and deashed prior to combination with unrefined liquid hydrocarbonaceous material. Compositions and products of the process are further provided.

Abstract: Provided herein are a method and means for the hydrotreatment of vegetable biomass and especially the hydrotreatment of pyrolysis oil. The present methods and means are especially useful in processes for the production of biofuels and/or renewable chemical compounds or intermediates. Specifically, the present invention relates to method for hydrotreatment of vegetable biomass, the methods include the step of: a) subjecting a mixture of concentrated hydrotreated vegetable biomass with a water content of less than 50 wt. % and a non-hydrotreated vegetable biomass to a hydrotreatment in the presence of a catalyst and hydrogen at an elevated pressure of 1000 kPa to 35000 kPa (10 bar to 350 bar) and an elevated temperature of 50° C. to 450° C.

Abstract: A method for recovering kerogen oil includes loading first and second reactors with carbonaceous material and injecting a heat transfer medium into the first reactor, wherein the heat transfer medium comprises steam. In addition, the method includes heating the carbonaceous material in the first reactor to a maximum temperature for the carbonaceous material in the first reactor during the method with the heat transfer medium to thermally crack kerogen and vaporize liquid hydrocarbons within the carbonaceous material in the first reactor and producing a vapor phase effluent from the first reactor as a result of the heating. Further, the method includes condensing the vapor phase effluent in the second reactor to produce a condensate stream that comprises condensed water and condensed hydrocarbons and heating the carbonaceous material in the second reactor as a result of the condensing. Still further, the method includes recovering kerogen oil from the condensate stream.
