    摘要: The present invention relates to a magnetorheological fluid composition and a process for preparing the same, which has excellent magnetorheological properties. The fluid composition exhibits change in rheological characteristics in the presence of an external magnetic field. Further, the magnetorheological characteristics of the fluid composition can be optimised for the improved magnetic sensitivity to external magnetic field and negligible magnetic retentivity after removal of the external magnetic field. The sensitivity of the fluid to external magnetic field can be varied by varying the pure iron content of the magnetic sensitive particles composition while, the magnetic retentivity of the fluid (after removal of external magnetic field) can be varied by varying the ferrite alloy content of the same. The fluid composition utilises a magnetic sensitive particles stabiliser or surfactant, which is synthesised from the carrier fluid used in the fluid composition. The fluid composition, prepared according to this process, does not suffer from the rapid settling of the magnetic particles as it utilises a carrier fluid based surfactant, which improves the homogeneity of the fluid composition.

    摘要: A center bearing assembly includes a roller bearing adapted to receive and rotatably support a coupling shaft and a bracket adapted to be secured to a vehicle frame. A support member is provided which supports the roller bearing within the bracket. The support member includes a bladder formed of an elastomeric material. The bladder contains a rheological fluid which exhibits a significant change in its ability to flow or shear upon the application of an appropriate energy field. Preferably, the bladder contains a magneto-rheological magnetic fluid. By varying the power supplied to an electromagnetic located adjacent the bladder, the vibration dampening characteristics of the support member may be varied depending upon the operating conditions of the vehicle.

    摘要: An electrorheological(ER) composite material with solid, elastomeric characteristics in the form of an elastomer matrix encompassing an ER fluid. This ER composite material changes certain of its physical properties in response to an imposed electric field (as do known ER fluids), but it has the advantage of maintaining a defined spatial volume without the need of sophisticated seals. It also provides desirable design features inherent in an elastic solid having the specific capability of being molded in conjunction with a containment surface to which it strongly adhesively bonds. Certain physical properties of these ER composite materials and their physical response to the application of an electric field may be varied by varying the properties and/or the proportions of the ER fluid component and the resin prepolymer component which are employed in formulating the composite.
