A flux composition for treating a metal surface prior to batch hot galvanizing in molten zinc-based alloys is disclosed. The flux composition can include (a) 40 to 70 wt. % zinc chloride, (b) 10 to 30 wt. % ammonium chloride, (c) 6 to 30 wt. % of a set of at least two alkali or alkaline earth metal halides, (d) from 0.1 to 2 wt. % lead chloride, and (e) from 2 to 15 wt. % tin chloride, provided that the combined amounts of lead chloride and tin chloride represent at least 2.5 wt. % of the composition. A fluxing bath having this flux composition dissolved in water for use in galvanizing processes, as well as, a method for continuous or batch-wise treatment of metal articles in order to produce a protective coating layer with a thickness ranging from 5 to 30 μm is also disclosed.

This invention provides process for manufacturing a galvanized metal three-dimensional object with a shape including multiple edges, said process comprising, in the following order, the steps of: (A) providing and cutting a metal sheet matrix with a thickness within a range from 0.8 mm to 6 mm, the shape of said metal sheet matrix including multiple free edges, (B) batch-wise hot dipping said metal sheet matrix into a molten zinc alloy galvanizing bath, (C) cold-forming the galvanized metal sheet matrix into a desired three-dimensional shape including multiple adjacent metal edges, and (D) cold-forming a series of joining points for fastening together said multiple adjacent metal edges, to form said galvanized metal three-dimensional object.

A method for removing soluble ferrous iron from a galvanizing flux solution includes circulating the flux solution through a concentration loop and injecting ozone into the concentration loop, wherein the ozone mixes with the flux solution and reacts with soluble ferrous iron to form insoluble ferric iron in the loop. Flux solution that is substantially free of insoluble ferric iron may be removed from the concentration loop through a filter medium such as a cross-flow microfilter, thereby concentrating the ferric iron in the concentration loop. The ozone may be injected through an eductor that utilizes motive force from a circulation pump, thereby reducing energy consumption and providing rapid mixing and reaction of ozone and ferrous iron.

After immersing an extruded flat tubed strip, in an immersion tank containing a slurry of a brazing material having brazing metallic powder and brazing flux powder mixed in alcohol that has binder dissolved therein, the extruded flat tubed strip is pulled up virtually vertically. Furthermore, the slurry coated on the extruded flat tubed strip pulled up from the immersion tank is dried and bonded/baked on the extruded flat tubed strip through the drying means.

This invention relates to a method of selectively removing zinc from an effluent, wherein the effluent is passed over an anion exchange column under conditions at which negatively charged zinc complexes are adsorbed to the column material. Subsequently, the zinc is stripped with ammonia from the anion exchanger.

A solder immersion chamber in a solder crater/leveler includes a solder manifold having upper and lower solder chambers, from which solder is directed onto the top and bottom surfaces of printed circuit boards conveyed therebetween. The solder immersion chamber has a pair of driven rollers at either end thereof for conveying the printed circuit boards through the solder immersion chamber, and for damming and holding the molten solder within the solder immersion chamber. A pair of oil weirs is provided adjacent either side of the upper solder chamber for continuously flowing oil to flood the top surface of the molten solder in the solder immersion chamber. A skimmer skims oil from the top surface of the molten solder, and returns the separated oil to the pair of oil weirs.

A flux for use in a dry process for the flux treatment of the material to be coated with molten metal contains at least one chloride selected from the group consisting of zinc chloride, stannous chloride, an alkali metal chloride and an alkaline earth metal chloride and at least one aliphatic nitrogen derivative with alkyl group having 1 to 18 carbons. The treatment of steel with this flux enables the formation of a coating having a good finish from, among others, a molten alloy of zinc and aluminum, which may further contain other elements, or molten aluminum, by a single dipping operation in an atmospheric environment which has hitherto been difficult. A process for manufacturing steel coated with molten metal, including its treatment with the flux, is also disclosed.

A process for simultaneously preheating and preparing a ferrous surface, prior to the depositing thereon of galvanized zinc coatings, replaces conventional fluxing techniques with the step of immersing a ferrous object in a bath of a molten salt or salts. The salts are chosen so that they are liquid at a temperature below that of the zinc coating step. The liquid acts as a non-fuming flux and preheat for the surface. Particular salts include metallic hydroxides and halides.
