Abstract: Disclosed are a laser assisted cold spray repair device and process method for aviation-grade aluminum alloy structural parts. In the present disclosure, a laser device, a high-pressure gas source, a powder feeder, a water cooling system, a reflector, an integrated spray gun, a mobile platform, an air pipe, a powder-gas mixed channel, a lower-pressure powder-gas powder feeding port, an air pressure regulating valve, a high-pressure airflow heater and a powder pipe are included. The powder spray gun and a heating laser source are connected coaxially, and a processing zone of the mobile platform is provided with a specimen to be processed. In the present disclosure, fatigue properties of repaired aviation-grade aluminum alloy specimens are restored to an original state before damage and satisfy service requirements.

Abstract: A method of coating a component includes attaching the component to a support that is configured to hold a plurality of components and placing a base of the support in a holder that is attached to rotatable member of a fixture, wherein an axis of the holder is parallel to an axis of rotation of the rotatable member. The method also includes transporting the fixture into a coating chamber wherein a direction of an exit stream of a coater in oriented perpendicularly to the axis of rotation, exposing the fixture and the component to a reverse transfer arc cleaning/pre-heating procedure, and exposing the fixture and the component to a coating procedure during which a coating is directed at the component in a direction perpendicular to the axis of rotation while the rotatable member is rotating. The method further includes transporting the fixture and removing the component from the support fixture.

Abstract: The apparatus comprises a labyrinth mixing device designed to mix a first oxidizer gas and a fuel under pressure, and to inject the mixture produced in a combustion chamber, a torch's main body (1) housing the labyrinth mixing device (2) and connectors (7) for fuel and oxidizer gases, a torch's front part (3) defining, with the labyrinth mixing device (2), the internal geometry of the combustion chamber (4) comprising several second oxidizer gas injectors (32,33) for injecting separately a second oxidizer gas upstream in the combustion chamber to promote the combustion process and connecting down-stream to a gas expanding nozzle (50) designed to receive products of combustion of said mixture and form a high-velocity gaseous jet, an ignition device (30) to start combustion of said mixture, a material delivery device (6) designed to inject an spray material axially into said high-velocity gaseous jet. The labyrinth mixing device (2) comprises one or more flanges (23,24) which define one or more mixing volumes (21,22) and holes (25,26,27), concentrically placed both on the flanges (23,24) and passing through the mixing device (2) and opening at the downstream end of the mixing device (2) for connecting a feeding section (20) of the labyrinth mixing device (2) with the combustion chamber (4). The labyrinth mixing device (2) comprises a crossing axial bore (28) to inject the spray material into the combustion chamber (4).

Abstract: Described herein, are methods for providing a protective coating to a storage container for storing nuclear material, the method comprising depositing nickel particles on at least one surface of the substrate to produce the protective coating, wherein the nickel particles are deposited by cold spraying a composition comprising nickel particles and a carrier gas comprising nitrogen. In one aspect, the carrier gas consists essentially or consists only of nitrogen. The methods do not require pretreatment or modification of the nickel particles prior to cold spraying, which makes the methods described herein economically practical. The coatings produced by the methods described herein possess several advantageous properties including, but not limited to, high adhesion strength to the storage system and low porosity. The coatings produced by the methods described herein are effective against chemical attack such as, for example, CISCC.

Abstract: A material for cold spraying contains a powder of a compound of a rare earth element with a specific surface area of 30 m2/g or more as determined by a BET single-point method. The powder preferably has a volume of pores with a pore size of 3 to 20 nm of 0.08 cm3/g or more as determined by a gas absorption method. The powder also preferably has a crystallite diameter of 25 nm or less. The powder also preferably has a repose angle of from 10 to 60°. In the L*a*b* color system, the powder also preferably has a value L of 85 or more, a value a of from −0.7 to 0.7, and a value b of from −1 to 2.5.
