Abstract:
This invention relates to a process for making phenolic fatty acid compounds having a reduced phenolic ester content. The invention also relates to method for chemically bonding a phenolic resin with a non-phenolic polymer (e.g., a synthetic fabric). The method comprises contacting a phenolic fatty acid compound with a non-phenolic polymer to introduce a hydroxy phenyl functional group into the non-phenolic polymer; and reacting the hydroxy phenyl functional group contained in the non-phenolic polymer with a phenolic resin or a phenolic crosslinker composition capable of forming a phenolic resin, to chemically bond the phenolic resin with the non-phenolic polymer. The invention is particularly useful for making a synthetic fabric-reinforced article, such as synthetic fabric-reinforced rubber article, circuit board substrate, or fiberglass.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a cord for a power transmission belt, including a first treatment step of treating an untreated yarn of a cord for a power transmission belt with a first treatment agent containing: a rubber composition (A) containing a condensate (A1) of a resorcin and formaldehyde, a rubber component (A2) containing a carboxy-modified latex, and a curing agent (A3) containing a polycarbodiimide resin having a plurality of carbodiimide groups; and a hydrophilic solvent (B).
Abstract:
A formulation is provided which comprises at least one phenolic compound in an amount of about 0.5 to about 1.2% of the mass of the formulation; at least one fragrance in an amount of about 0.3 to about 1.0% of the mass of the formulation; and at least one alcohol in an amount of about 90 to about 99% of the mass of the formulation. Said formulation is surfactant free and being capable of rendering anti-microbial finish to fabrics. And also, a process for preparing a fabric with anti-microbial finish is provided.
Abstract:
An object of the invention is to provide cellulose fibers which can give a cellulose composite that renders high transparency, a reduction in linear expansion coefficient, and a high modulus of elasticity possible. The invention relates to: a process for producing modified cellulose fibers which includes a modification reaction step of reacting cellulose with an aromatic compound in an organic acid to thereby modify the cellulose with an aromatic-ring-containing substituent; cellulose fibers modified with aromatic-ring-containing substituent; a dispersion of the cellulose fibers; and a cellulose fiber composite obtained from the same.
Abstract:
This invention relates to thickened aqueous formulations containing cross-linked cationic polymers, novel homo- and copolymers their production and their use as thickeners for household formulations.
Abstract:
Methods of enhancing stain resistance of fibers, carpet yarns and carpets are disclosed. Treating compositions used to enhance the stain resistance of fibers, carpet yarns and carpets are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A method for imparting the multiple functions of water- and oil-repellency, soil-releasing properties and anti-bacterial properties to a mixed or blended fabric is provided including: (a) treating a mixed or blended fabric of polyester/rayon by dipping the mixed or blended fabric in a treating solution which includes, based on the weight of the mixed or blended fabric, 1 to 10 wt. % of phenolic antibacterial agent, 2.5 to 5.0 wt. % of a first fluoric compound, 3.0 to 6.0 wt. % of a second fluoric compound, different from the first fluoric compound, 0.3 to 0.5 wt. % of melamine resin as a cross-linking agent and a buffer, the rate of absorption of treating solution by the mixed or blended fabric being maintained at 50.+-.5%, (b) drying the treated fabric, and (c) thereafter heat treating the treated and dried fabric.
Abstract:
An adhesive composition comprised of (A) a latex of 100 wt. parts of a carboxyl group-containing highly saturated nitrile-conjugated diene copolymer rubber, (B) 5-30 wt. parts of a resorcinol-formaldehyde resin, and (C) 2-10 wt. parts of an aromatic epoxy resin. A composite comprised of a nitrile group-containing highly saturated copolymer rubber and a fibrous material, which has been treated with the adhesive composition. This composite is useful for belts.
Abstract:
Stable aqueous coemulsions of oxidized polyethylene with amino functional silicone fluids which includes at least one constituent selected from the group consisting of; ethoxylated aliphatic amines, ethoxylated nonylphenols, ethoxylated primary alcohols, ethoxylated secondary alcohols or other nonionic emulsifiers are taught, as well as processes for making the same. The coemulsions may also comprise further constituents, including but not limited to fatty acids, ammonium hydroxide, salts and water. The coemulsions find use in conjunction with textile processing and paper processing.
