摘要: In one or more arrangements, a lagoon entry system and method of retrofitting a lagoon entry system to a covered lagoon is presented. In one or more arrangements, the lagoon entry system includes a center wall connected to an interior portion, an exterior portion, and a gate complex. The gate complex includes a gate which is configured to provide selective access into the covered lagoon, namely access by a submersible robot cleaner configured to clean the floor of the covered lagoon. In one or more arrangements, the lagoon entry system is retrofitted to a covered lagoon by cutting a hole in the cover of the covered lagoon, excavating material from an interior area located inside the covered lagoon and an exterior area located outside the lagoon. Once the interior area and exterior area have been excavated, the center wall, interior portion, and exterior portion can be placed and properly connected.

摘要: An underwater suspended tunnel (6) has a shaft (10) with generally convex upper and lower outer surfaces (12, 13) meeting at longitudinally extending, transversely streamlined and opposed sides (14, 15). One or more apertures (20a, 20b) for carrying traffic extend longitudinally through the shaft (10). The shaft (10) has positive net buoyancy and is tethered at a generally uniform depth below sea level (5) by ties (32) anchored to the sea bed (4).

摘要: An underwater tunnel system for vehicular traffic flow, including rail, automobile and truck traffic connecting the shores of opposed land masses separated by a body of water draws heavily from submarine, manufacturing and modular construction technology. It is environmentally benign and will not adversely dominate the skyline of the surrounding region. The system of the invention requires minimal, if any, dredging to insure its substantially level installation. A compensating ducting and valve system is utilized for initial tunnel submergence during construction and to provide dynamic stability subsequently during operation. Part of the ducting system utilized during submergence operations is also subsequently used for ventilation airflow throughout the tunnel system during operation. During operation, fresh air is introduced from both shores into the tunnel system and exhaust air may be selectively discharged at both shores or from the tunnel system at a location distant from both shores.

摘要: Apparatus and methods for improved transportation functionality. In one aspect, the invention comprises an improved and highly integrated transportation apparatus adapted to bring a plurality of different modalities in close physical proximity for enhanced efficiency. One exemplary embodiment comprises a multi-level structure disposed in a substantially contained low depth body of water (e.g., bay) and proximate one or more land masses to facilitate service via rail, land vehicle, ships, and ferries. Multiple long-length runways are also provided on the substantially planar top surface to accommodate air traffic. A monorail or similar system is also employed to allow ready movement between the various transportation interfaces.

摘要: A novel method of underwater tunnel construction is provided which comprises the employment of a double-layered flexible mold or form and the introduction of both an inert and a reactive fluid into spacings of the mold so as to produce both the shape and the basic structure of the designated tunnel. Upon consolidation of the reactive fluid, the inert fluid will be withdrawn and air is filled in to provide the tunnel spacing for further finishing work and normal function of the tunnel. When completed, the designated tunnel basically consists of a sandwich-like structural body having a least an inner and an outer layer of impermeable fabrics and sandwiched within these fabrics a relatively thick layer of consolidated mass such as concrete which constitutes the main structure or walls of the tunnel. A second layer of consolidated mass may be provided through the use of a third and outer fabric and the corresponding introduction of the reactive fluid into the enclosed spacing thereof. This provides the lateral strength for the tunnel. Alternatively, the basic tunnel structure may also be erected within a depression pre-excavated on the floor of the watercourse to delete the need for supplementary wall system.
