Abstract: A method including: obtaining a flexible underlayment, wherein the flexible underlayment comprises: a first sensor, wherein the first sensor comprises a first flexible circuit, and wherein the first flexible circuit is configured to: measure a first value representative of a first roofing system condition measurement, wherein the first flexible circuit measures the first value at a first location, wherein a first location identifier indicative of the first location is stored in a database in communication with the first sensor; determine a first roofing system condition in the first location based at least in part on the first value and the first location identifier; and generate a first notification representative of the first roofing system condition; installing the flexible underlayment on a roof deck of a steep slope roof of a structure; installing a first roofing shingle over the flexible underlayment and above at least the first sensor.

Abstract: A low-emissivity roofing underlayment comprises a woven reinforcing substrate sandwiched between an aluminized bottom layer and a slip resistant top layer. The bottom, aluminized layer is adapted to be placed against the roof sheathing, facing inward toward the roof rafters, and the slip resistant top layer faces outward and may be walked on by roof shingle installers with a decreased risk of slip and fall accidents, thus permitting safer walking during construction of steeper roofs.

Abstract: A breathable synthetic roofing underlayment having a hydrophobic nonwoven layer on top to deflect water, a liquid water-resistant and vapour-permeable membrane layer in the middle, and a bottom nonwoven layer which is hydrophilic and has rapid and high liquid water absorbency. This accelerates the movement of liquid water from a roofing deck into the nonwoven bottom layer and increases the rate of transfer of water through the underlayment. The bottom layer comprises a carrier resin and a hydrophilic agent, which may be a polyamide such as polycaprolactam (Nylon 6) or poly(hexamethylene adipamide), a polysorbate or other composition. The underlayment is especially useful for application to wet roofing decks.

Abstract: A synthetic nonwoven fabric having bonded fibers forming channels surrounding unbonded fibers forming raised slip resistant spots. The fabric is made by extruding hot polymer through a spinneret die onto a moving belt to form a sheet of random fibers, which sheet undergoes a calendering process between a pair of heated rollers, one of which rollers having a plurality of cavities defined in its surface. The resulting fabric can be laminated and otherwise combined with other layers as desired to provide an end product having good slip resistant properties.

Abstract: A hail resistant roofing system and method includes a roofing substrate such as a shingle or tile or membrane having an array of exposed upwardly projecting features. The features may rise to sharp points and may have side surfaces that are angled relative to the plane of the roofing substrate. The features are spaced and arranged so that a large hail stone capable of damaging the roofing substrate will always impact one or more of the exposed features. This can break up the hail stone into smaller benign pieces or can redirect the energy and direction of the hail stone so that the impact is absorbed without damage to the roofing substrate.
