    摘要: A boring tool is provided with first and second rectangular reversing cut plates which have, in each case, two short and two considerably longer cutting edges. One of the reversing cut plates is arranged connecting to or intersecting the axis of rotation of the boring tool, while the other reversing cut plate 12 is arranged connecting to the outer circle defined by the boring tool. The cutting edges active in each case on the face side of the boring tool have a straight construction and they overlap to a greater or lesser extend, in accordance with the bore diameter. The bend-free and jog-free construction of the active cutting edges of the cut plates makes possible the use of the same reversing cut plates on boring tools having different diameters with only the extent of the overlap of the cut plates being changed.

The drill steel has one portion adjacent one of the opposite ends thereof and a mediate portion spaced apart from the one portion. The one portion of the drill steel presents a first orientation of the faces. The mediate portion of the drill steel presents a second orientation of the faces. The one transition portion of the drill steel presents a twisted orientation of the faces comprising a generally constant twist of the faces from the first orientation of the one portion to the second orientation of the mediate portion. There is a chuck for attachment to the drill steel through engagement with the transition portion of the drill steel.

    摘要: A hollow auger head assembly for penetrating geological formations that utilizes drill bit assemblies to which both blades and finger bits are attached. The method of securing the individual drill bit assemblies to the auger head reduces incidents of the drill bit assembly becoming detached from the auger head during drilling operations. Additionally, a rust-resistant attachment mechanism is used attach the drill bit assemblies to the auger head, which makes the drill bit assemblies easier to remove and replace. The configuration and arrangement of the bits improves cutting efficiency, increases wear life and reduces the likelihood of the bits breaking during operation.
