Abstract:
A brake system for maintaining an angular position of a spindle assembly. A pump-powered motor drives rotation of a spindle on the machine. When no rotation is desired, the spindle will slow, then stop at a desired angular orientation. A rotational sensor will determine the clock position, and a controller compares that to a desired angular orientation. If an error tolerance is exceeded, the motor will rotate the spindle back to the desired orientation.

Abstract:
An adaptor for drilling strings has a head, sleeve and mounting block assembly to secure a drill bit to a drilling string. By reverse rotation of the drilling string, the sleeve is movable between a first position, where pressurized air from the drilling string is directed to the drill bit, to a second position, where the air is directed to the drill hole above the adaptor to clear debris from the hole. Teeth at both ends of the assist the adaptor to clear the hole as the drill drill string is rotated and retracted from the hole.
Abstract:
A method for controlling drilling operations includes defining operation zones in a drilling operation area, each operation zone having equipment operating therein, and repeatedly performing the steps of: determining a position of at least one person in the drilling operation area, determining whether the respective determined position is within any of the operation zones and associating each person to the operation zone in which the person is located, determining whether the respective determined position is within a safety zone in proximity to the equipment, determining at least one action to be performed with regard to each operation zone in which the person has been determined to be present, and transmitting at least one control signal for controlling the drilling operations based on the at least one action determined. The at least one action is determined dependent on whether or not the position of the person is in the safety zone.
Abstract:
A method for drilling a borehole in a subsurface formation includes receiving measured values indicative of operations performed by drilling equipment while drilling. The measured values include hookload values. The hookload values are analyzed to identify hookload values acquired while connecting a drill pipe, and a block weight value is set based on such a hookload value. The block weight value is subtracted from the hookload values to produce rebased hookload values. A rig state model produces a value for a state of the drilling equipment based on the measured values and the rebased hookload values. Responsive to the state of the drilling equipment, an operation performed to drill the subsurface formation is changed.

Abstract:
Disclosed are configurations of tools, e.g., as used in the tool strings of electrical submersible pump systems, that prevent the separation of the tool string into two disconnected units upon breaking of a tool within the tool string. In an example configuration according to one embodiment, such a non-parting tool includes a head and base connected to each other via a housing and a shaft extending through the tool, as well as mechanical stops affixed to the shaft that limit, upon breaking of the housing, the relative motion between the head and base. Additional apparatus, systems, and methods are disclosed.
Abstract:
A method and a computer program for controlling a drilling cycle in a rock drilling apparatus, and a rock drilling apparatus. In accordance with the invention, each drilling unit in the rock drilling apparatus is monitored during a drilling period, and a drilling sequence of a control unit in the rock drilling apparatus is updated at predetermined intervals during the drilling period. The total time of the drilling and the time elapsed for different operations can be registered. In addition, according to an embodiment, the drilling sequence is changed during updating, if changes occur in the drilling conditions during the drilling period.
