    Abstract: An alignment device for measuring orientation of a drill rig having a chuck is disclosed. The device can comprise a tubular housing having a cylindrical outer surface and defining an inner bore. The tubular housing can be configured to be receivable into the chuck of the drill rig. A gyroscopic orientation sensor can be disposed within the tubular housing. The gyroscopic orientation sensor can be configured to provide a signal indicative of an orientation of the alignment device. A wireless transmitter can be in communication with the gyroscopic orientation sensor. The wireless transmitter can be configured to transmit a wireless output indicative of the orientation of the alignment device.

    Abstract: A downhole mud motor includes a driveshaft housing, a driveshaft rotatably disposed in the driveshaft housing, a bearing mandrel coupled to the driveshaft, and a bend adjustment assembly including a first position, wherein the bend adjustment assembly includes a second position, wherein the bend adjustment assembly includes an adjustment mandrel having a first axial position corresponding to the first position of the bend adjustment assembly and a second axial position which corresponds to the second position of the bend adjustment assembly, and wherein the bend adjustment assembly is prevented from actuating from the first position to the second position when the adjustment mandrel is in the first axial position, and wherein the bend adjustment assembly is permitted to actuate between the first position and the second position when the adjustment mandrel is in a second axial position that is axially spaced from the first axial position.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method are used in conjunction with a system for performing horizontal directional drilling, the system including a drill string extending from a drill rig to a boring tool such that the boring tool is steerable based on a roll orientation. The system also includes an arrangement for generating steering commands for guiding the boring tool to a target position. Responsive at least in part to the steering commands, a display is configured to selectively indicate each of a rotate command, a push command and a spin command. A steering indicator is described which indicates a current roll orientation of the boring tool. A 3-D grid can be animated and centered on either a steering or target indicator. Rounding of a steering command ratio can limit the display of target roll orientations to only those that a given boring tool transmitter is capable of sensing and indicating.

    Abstract: A wireless data telemetry system for use in a drilling system can include a drill head wireless transmitter and at least one data link transceiver. The drill head wireless transmitter can be in a drill head of the drilling system, the drill head wireless transmitter configured to generate and transmit one or more data signals associated with a drilling process. The at least one data link transceiver can be wirelessly coupled to at least one of the drill head wireless transmitter or another data link transceiver, with the drill head wireless transmitter and the at least one data link transceiver configured to be physically coupled within a drill string and spaced apart from one another. The drill head wireless transmitter and the at least one data link transceiver together configured to wirelessly communicate the one or more data signals beyond a transmission range of the drill head wireless transmitter.

    Abstract: A method, device, and system is described herein for pushing a rotary drill bit. Pushing the rotary drill bit can include receiving a target direction in a formation to push the rotary drill bit while drilling a wellbore in a formation.     Abstract: Method(s) and apparatus according to which: a bottom-hole assembly (“BHA”) and a drilling rig together attempt to drill a wellbore segment along a planned trajectory while a test scenario is executed on the drilling rig by varying operating parameter(s) of the drilling rig in a predetermined manner during a predetermined time interval; performance characteristic(s) monitored by sensor(s) of the BHA during the predetermined time interval are then received; the predetermined manner in which the operating parameter(s) of the drilling rig were varied during the predetermined time interval is/are then compared to the received performance characteristic(s) monitored by the sensor(s) of the BHA during the predetermined time interval; and based on said comparison, the operating parameter(s) of a drilling rig (e.g., another drilling rig) are controlled while a BHA (e.g., another BHA) operably associated with the drilling rig attempts to drill a wellbore segment along a similar planned trajectory.
