Abstract: Typical active grille shutter vanes meet the frame at either end, with a small clearance between the parts, to avoid the parts binding together. This invention adds a set of soft flaps, which are molded in a two-shot process, to allow the vanes to seal against the frame while closed but sit free of the frame while open. This clearance is accomplished by adding a stepped wall to the frame component, to create an interference between the vane flaps while turning to the closed position, causing the flaps to be deflected in a gradual manner, so the actuator motor is not taxed with a sudden increase in required torque.

Abstract: Embodiments of an upper body heat exchanger for a vehicle. In one embodiment, an upper body heat exchanger includes a first portion having a plurality of fins disposed on a first surface. The upper body heat exchanger also includes a second portion having a plurality of heat transfer fluid passages disposed on a second surface of the upper body heat exchanger. The second portion is beneath the first portion. The upper body heat exchanger is mounted on the vehicle such that the first surface of the first portion of the upper body heat exchanger is exposed. The plurality of heat transfer fluid passages are configured to transfer heat from heated fluid flowing through the plurality of heat transfer fluid passages to airflows interacting with the plurality of fins as the vehicle is moving.

Abstract: A cooling system of a hybrid vehicle includes a radiator, an openable and closable first shutter, an openable and closable second shutter, and a control device. The radiator is placed forward of an internal combustion engine and a heat generation device configured to generate heat along with operation of the drive motor, and the radiator communicates with the heat generation device and the internal combustion engine such that a coolant circulates through the internal combustion engine and the heat generation device. The first shutter extends from a front end of an undercover so as to cross between the radiator, and the heat generation device and the internal combustion engine. The second shutter extends between a front end part of the undercover and a lower part of the radiator. The control device controls opening and closing of the first shutter and the second shutter.

Abstract: A vehicle includes first and second heat exchangers, a shutter member, first and second detectors, and a control device. The first and second heat exchangers are disposed in an engine room. The first heat exchanger is used for cooling of an engine. The second heat exchanger is used for recovery of exhaust heat of the engine. The shutter member opens and closes a grille opening in a front portion of the engine room. The first detector detects a feed forward system parameter indicating a sign of a load increase the first exchanger or the second heat exchanger. The second detector detects a feedback system parameter indicating that a load in the first exchanger or the second heat exchangers has increased. The control device controls opening and closing of the shutter member and adjusts an opening degree of the shutter member based on the feed forward and feedback system parameters.

Abstract: A flap position sensing device of an active air flap system, and a method of manufacturing the same are described. The rotating body is formed of a resin material, and rotates the flap by receiving torque while the rotating body is coaxially fixed to a rotation shaft of the flap. The sensor casing is formed of a resin material, and is fixed to the housing to rotatably support the rotating body. The first hall sensor and the second hall sensor are integrally formed with the sensor casing by injection molding, and are disposed corresponding to an open position and a closed position, respectively, of the flap.
