摘要: Fuel management system for enhanced operation of a spark ignition gasoline engine. Injectors inject an anti-knock agent such as ethanol directly into a cylinder. It is preferred that the direct injection occur after the inlet valve is closed. It is also preferred that stoichiometric operation with a three way catalyst be used to minimize emissions. In addition, it is also preferred that the anti-knock agents have a heat of vaporization per unit of combustion energy that is at least three times that of gasoline.

摘要: The invention is provided with an ignition control section and an injection control section. When partial compression ignition combustion is carried out, the ignition control section causes an ignition plug to carry out: main ignition in which a spark is generated in a late period of a compression stroke or an initial period of an expansion stroke to initiate SI combustion; and preceding ignition in which the spark is generated at earlier timing than the main ignition. Also, when the partial compression ignition combustion is carried out, the injection control section causes an injector to inject fuel at such timing that the fuel exists in a cylinder at an earlier time point than the preceding ignition. Timing of the preceding ignition is set to be more retarded when an engine speed is high than when the engine speed is low.

摘要: A method for introducing combustion air into a cylinder (25) of an internal combustion engine, a high-pressure inlet valve (1) provided therefor and an internal combustion engine that operates using the method and the high-pressure inlet valve are described. All the combustion air for the respective cylinders (25) is introduced into the cylinder (25) of the internal combustion engine, by means of a high-pressure inlet valve (1) arranged in the relevant cylinder head (26) and on the basis of a controlled mass flow, such that mixture formation and charge exchange are intensified. In addition, the temperature and/or pressure of the combustion air is measured and the quantity of combustion air is introduced into the cylinder (25), in a controlled manner and on the basis of the measurement results, by means of the high-pressure inlet valve (1) by opening or closing a sliding piston (3) of the high-pressure inlet valve (1) by displacement. As a result of an axial displacement of the sliding piston (3) between guide sections (5) in the housing (2) of the high-pressure inlet valve (1), passage areas (6) for combustion air are blocked in a closed position (7) and opened in an open position (8). In the passage area (6), the sliding piston (3) has two pressurization areas (10, 11) facing each other, the surfaces of which are of equal size or differ from each other when projected in one plane. The first pressurization area (10) can be designed as a poppet valve (12) and the second pressurization area (11) can be designed as an annular surface (13). The internal combustion engine has a high-pressure line (27) for the combustion air, which line is connected to the high-pressure inlet valve (1). With respect to the longitudinal axis of the cylinder (25), the high-pressure inlet valve (1) is arranged in the cylinder head (26) in an upright or horizontal position.

摘要: Systems and methods are provided for performing on-board separation of a fuel into a higher octane fuel fraction and a lower octane fuel fraction using a membrane under osmosis conditions. By performing the separation under osmosis conditions, the feed for separation can be exposed to the membrane without requiring prior heating. This can avoid the need for having a separate heat exchanger system for heating the feed to the membrane to a desired temperature range. Additionally or alternately, the permeate from the membrane separation can be at a pressure of roughly 100 kPa-a or higher. This can avoid the need for having an eductor to provide a pressure below 100 kPa-a for the permeate side of the membrane. The fuel fractions produced during the membrane separation can then be used as fuel in a dual-fuel spark ignition engine.

摘要: An in-cylinder injection engine includes: a cylinder head that includes a gasket surface stacked on a seating face of a cylinder block and defines a combustion chamber between a piston and a ceiling surface gradually receding from an imaginary plane including the gasket surface in going toward a center of the cylinder head; two intake ports disposed side by side and opened in the ceiling surface of the cylinder head; and a fuel injection valve mounted to the cylinder head and having an injection port facing the combustion chamber at a position between an opening of the intake port and the gasket surface. The intake port is formed to have a shape of introducing an airflow laterally into the combustion chamber along the imaginary plane. Accordingly, the in-cylinder injection engine can reduce attachment of injected fuel to a wall surface of a cylinder bore.
