Abstract: A method of operating a system including a hydrogen internal combustion engine and a supercharger between a normal operating mode and an engine braking mode. In the normal operating mode, the supercharger operates at a first rotational speed to deliver air to an intake manifold of the engine. In the engine braking mode, the supercharger operates at a second rotational speed to deliver air to the intake manifold and a restriction is provided to increase a pressure ratio across the supercharger.

Abstract: An e-charger includes a motor case that encases the motor and an outer housing that houses the motor case. The e-charger additionally includes a cooling system with passages cooperatively defined by the outer housing and the motor case. First and second longitudinal passages extend between the first and second ends of the motor, and a second longitudinal passage extends between the second and first ends of the motor. The end passage fluidly connects the first and second longitudinal passage. The cooling system is configured for directing flow of the coolant from the inlet, through the first longitudinal passage in a first longitudinal direction with respect to the axis, through the end passage, and back through the second longitudinal passage in a second longitudinal direction with respect to the axis.

Abstract: Providing additional mass air flow to an engine of a vehicle to expand an operating range of cylinder deactivation (CDA) is provided. Aspects of the present disclosure describe a method and system to provide additional mass air flow to an engine using an auxiliary air source coupled to a turbocharger. When a low air-to-fuel ratio state is determined in association with operating the vehicle in CDA mode, the auxiliary air source is activated to assist the turbocharger with increase the supply of supercharged intake air to the engine. Accordingly, the operating range of CDA is expanded.

Abstract: An engine system includes an internal combustion engine, an electrical power system configured to provide electrical power in the engine system, and an electrified air system powered by the electrical power system to selectively increase a flow of intake air and exhaust gas to the engine. The electrified air system further includes an EGR pump operable to recirculate a portion of exhaust gas output from the engine and an electric turbocharger including a turbine, a compressor driven by the turbine via a shaft coupled therebetween, and an electrical machine coupled to the shaft. The electrical machine is configured to operate in a motoring mode to drive the shaft and cause the compressor to output boosted intake air to the engine and operate in a generating mode to transform rotational power from the shaft into electrical power that is provided back into the electrical power system.
