摘要: Embodiments disclosed herein relate generally to systems and methods of operating internal combustion (IC) engines, and more specifically to systems and methods of starting compression ignition (CI) engines when the surrounding environment is significantly colder than the normal operating temperature of the engine (i.e., “cold-starting”). In some embodiments, the CI engine can include an ignition-assist device. In some embodiments, a method of operating a CI engine during cold-start can include opening an intake valve to draw a volume of air into the combustion chamber, moving a piston from a bottom-dead-center position to a top-dead-center position in a combustion chamber at a compression ratio of between about 15 and about 25, injecting a volume of fuel, the fuel having a cetane number of less than about 30, closing the intake valve, and combusting substantially all of the volume of fuel.

摘要: Methods and systems are provided for providing secondary air to an exhaust system during catalyst warm-up. In one example, a method may include, during a cold start condition, operating an engine with a first number of cylinders unfired and a remaining number of cylinders fired during an engine cycle, opening an intake valve of an unfired cylinder of the first number of cylinders during an expansion stroke of the unfired cylinder, and opening an exhaust valve of the unfired cylinder during a compression stroke of the unfired cylinder. In this way, the unfired cylinders may provide the secondary air to the exhaust system during a stroke that increases mixing of the secondary air with burned exhaust gas from fired cylinders, thus increasing exotherm production in the exhaust system to increase a temperature of the catalyst.

摘要: Methods and systems are proposed for controlling a temperature of exhaust gases generated by the engine by operating an E-Turbo of the vehicle. In one embodiment, a method is provided, comprising increasing a power generated by an electric machine mechanically coupled with an exhaust turbine of an E-Turbo of a vehicle or adjusting an engine power based on a speed of the exhaust turbine and an air-fuel ratio (AFR) of an engine of the vehicle of the engine responsive to the speed of the exhaust turbine increasing above a threshold turbine speed. By increasing or decreasing the power generated by the electric machine and/or adjusting the engine power, the temperature of the exhaust gas may be maintained within a threshold temperature range where an efficiency of an aftertreatment system may be maximized, thereby reducing an emissions of the vehicle.

摘要: A system and method for operating an engine comprises an engine speed sensor generating an engine speed signal, a throttle position sensor generating a throttle position signal, a sensor module comprising at least one of a fuel pressure sensor generating a fuel pressure signal corresponding to a fuel pressure and a fuel temperature sensor generating a fuel temperature signal corresponding to a fuel temperature into the engine. A controller is coupled to the fuel injector, the engine speed sensor and the sensor module. The controller determines a pulse width duration for the fuel injector based on engine speed and throttle position, determining a pulse width correction factor as a function of at least one of the fuel temperature signal and the fuel pressure signal, determining a second pulse width duration based on the first pulse width, and operating the fuel injector with the second pulse width duration.

摘要: A controller for an aftertreatment system coupled to an engine is configured to: in response to receiving an engine shutdown signal, determine an estimated amount of ammonia stored on a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst included in the aftertreatment system; in response to determining that the estimated amount of ammonia stored in the SCR catalyst is less than an ammonia storage threshold, cause flow of a heated gas towards the SCR catalyst; cause insertion of reductant into an exhaust gas flowing through the aftertreatment system; and in response to determining that the estimated amount of ammonia stored in the SCR catalyst is equal to or greater than the ammonia storage threshold, cause shutdown of the engine.

摘要: An engine assembly and a method of control thereof is provided. The engine assembly comprises: an exhaust gas aftertreatment device having an inlet for receiving exhaust gases leaving an engine; a heater for selectively heating gases at or upstream of the exhaust gas aftertreatment device; an air moving device for driving a flow of gases into the inlet of the exhaust gas aftertreatment device when the engine is in a non-running condition; and a controller configured to, prior to the engine being started: operate the heater to heat gases at or upstream of the inlet; and operate the air moving device to drive a flow of gases into the inlet to thereby heat the exhaust gas treatment device.

摘要: Systems and apparatuses include an engine, an aftertreatment system including a catalyst, and a controller coupled to the aftertreatment system and the engine. During a warmup period for an engine, the controller determines a value regarding a mass flow rate of exhaust gas based on information received from at least one of the engine or the aftertreatment system. The controller receives a target value regarding the mass flow rate of the exhaust gas. The controller controls at least one of the engine, the aftertreatment system, or at least one component associated therewith to reach or attempt to reach the target value regarding the mass flow rate of the exhaust gas.
