Abstract: A neat-fuel direct-injected compression ignition engine having a thermal barrier coated combustion chamber, an injection port injects fuel that satisfies a stoichiometric condition with respect to the intake air, a mechanical exhaust regenerator transfers energy from exhaust gas to intake compression stages, an exhaust O2 sensor inputs to a feedback control to deliver quantified fuel, a variable valve actuation (VVA) controls valve positions, an exhaust gas temperature sensor controls exhaust feedback by closing the exhaust valve early according to the VVA, or recirculated to the chamber with an exhaust-gas-recirculation (EGR), heat exchanger, and flow path connecting an air intake, a load command input, and a computer operates the EGR from sensors to input exhaust gas according exhaust temperature signals and changes VVA timing, the load control is by chamber exhaust gas, the computer operates a fuel injector to deliver fuel independent of exhaust gas by the O2 signals.

Abstract: The invention relates to an internal combustion engine comprising a crankshaft, one or more cylinders including a cylinder head, a piston, a combustion chamber, one or more intake valves, one or more exhaust valves, an intake system configured for feeding intake air to the engine, an exhaust system configured for conveying exhaust gas away from the engine, a pressure charging system connected to the intake system and an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system arranged to feed branched off exhaust gas from the exhaust system to the intake system via an EGR conduit wherein: * the internal combustion engine includes a valve actuation device configured to allow for late or early closing of the intake valves in accordance with late or early Miller-type valve timing, and wherein * the EGR system includes a gas feeding device configured to feed exhaust gas through the EGR conduit in modes of operation wherein the pressure in the intake system exceeds the pressure in the exhaust system, * wherein the gas feeding device is a displacement pump and wherein the gas feeding device is arranged so that exhaust gas recirculating in the EGR system during operation of the engine passes the gas feeding device before being mixed with intake air in the intake system. Additionally, a method of improving efficiency of an internal combustion engine is described.

Abstract: A method of operating an exhaust gas recirculation pump for an internal combustion engine including: providing an EGR pump assembly including an electric motor coupled to a roots device having rotors, the EGR pump operably connected to an internal combustion engine; providing an EGR control unit lined to the EGR pump assembly; providing sensors linked to the EGR control unit; determining if a motor speed is within a predetermined target (step SI), wherein when the motor speed is within the predetermined target then; determining if a motor torque is within a predetermined target (step S2) wherein when the motor torque is within the predetermined target then; determining if a motor temperature is within a predetermined target (step S3) wherein when the motor temperature is within the predetermined target then; maintaining operation of the exhaust gas recirculation pump.

Abstract: A system and method of integrating an engine having dynamic skip fire control with an exhaust gas recirculation system in a turbocharged internal combustion engine is described. An engine control system determines an appropriate firing pattern based at least in part on a desired exhaust gas recirculation flow rate. Signals from sensors in the intake manifold and exhaust system may also be used as part of a feedback loop to determine a desired exhaust gas recirculation flow rate.

Abstract: Methods and systems for reducing the temperature of the charge air provided to a turbocharged internal combustion engine. A supercharger is installed on the air intake path, upstream the turbocharger's compressor. A secondary charge air cooler is installed between the supercharger and the main compressor. This over-compresses the intake air, so that an expansion turbine installed downstream the turbocharger's compressor can cool the charge air and still provide sufficient charge air pressure into the intake manifold.

Abstract: An exhaust manifold comprises a plurality of exhaust intake conduits structured to be fluidly coupled to an engine and receive exhaust gas from a corresponding cylinder of the engine. At least one exhaust intake conduit provides a reduction in an exhaust intake conduit cross-sectional area from an inlet to an outlet. A plurality of bends are each defined by a respective one of the exhaust intake conduit outlets. An exhaust intake manifold is fluidly coupled to the exhaust intake manifold and defines an exhaust intake manifold flow axis. Each of the plurality of bends is shaped so as to define an angle of approach of exhaust gas flowing therethrough. A first angle of approach of the first bend relative to the exhaust intake manifold flow axis is smaller than a second angle of approach of an inner second bend.

Abstract: An engine control device controls an engine provided with an EGR device. The engine control device is provided with an abnormality determining unit, a restricted operation unit, and a restriction released operation unit. The abnormality determining unit determines whether an abnormality has arisen in the EGR device. The restricted operation unit performs restricted operation in which some functions of the engine are restricted, if the abnormality determining unit has determined that an abnormality has arisen in the EGR device. If a manipulation to release the restricted operation has been performed, the restriction released operation unit switches from restricted operation to restriction released operation in which the restrictions on some of the functions of the engine are released, and performs said restriction released operation.
