Abstract: A fuel injector including a flow balanced injector needle seal is provided. The fuel injector includes a needle in a fuel passage of the fuel injector body. The needle moves longitudinally in the fuel passage to selectively stop and start fuel injection from the fuel passage. The fuel injector includes a check valve assembly that maintains pressurized fuel in the fuel passage and permits fuel flow out of the fuel passage in response to a fuel injection event. The needle seal is provided between the check valve assembly and a sleeve that extends around the proximal end of the needle. The needle seal includes multiple inlet orifices for receiving a fuel flow into the needle seal that are positioned relative to one another so that net lateral forces on the needle are effectively offset from one another.

Abstract: A fuel return device couples to the high pressure side of a DI fuel system. The fuel return device provides for both continuous bleeding and occasional purging of fuel from the high pressure side to prevent issues related to vapor accumulation or heat-induced pressure increase. The fuel return device may be attached to a high pressure fuel rail in place of a sensor. The sensor may be attached the fuel return device. The fuel return device may include both an orifice that throttles the fuel flow through the fuel return device and a solenoid that allows the flow rate to be increased.

Abstract: A fuel injector includes an injector body comprising an internal injector cavity, a flow passageway, and a drain conduit. The flow passageway is in fluid communication with at least one injector orifice. The fuel injector further includes a valve assembly comprising a valve seat and a valve member in fluid communication with the fuel circuit. The valve member is configured to move between an open position allowing fuel flow through the at least one injector orifice and a closed position inhibiting fuel flow through the at least one injector orifice. The fuel injector also includes a nozzle valve element fluidly coupled to the valve assembly, an actuator operably coupled to the valve assembly and the nozzle valve element, and a flexible member configured to elastically deform in response to pressure in the fuel injector. The flexible member is configured to inhibit flow to the drain circuit during an injection event.

An interior of the mount may be in fluid communication with an interior of the cooler body. The at least one mount may be positioned such that the mount does not extend beyond the width of the cooler body.

As at least one of the first piezo actuator and the second piezo actuator expands, a fuel is drained from the control chamber to the drain chamber through at least one of the first drain throttle and the second drain throttle.

Abstract: A fuel injector includes an upper housing having an outer peripheral surface; a nozzle tip with a nozzle opening which serves as an outlet to fuel from the fuel injector; and a valve needle which is selectively moveable between a first position which prevents fuel flow and a second position which permits fuel flow. The fuel injector also includes an inlet sleeve which includes an inner peripheral surface which circumferentially surrounds, and mates with, the outer peripheral surface of the upper housing. The inlet sleeve is fixed to the upper housing, thereby preventing relative movement between the inlet sleeve and the upper housing. The inlet sleeve includes external threads which are configured to mate with complementary internal threads of a nut which secures a fuel supply conduit to the upper housing.
